Hi everyone I have just been prescribed some medication that I have to take overseas as I have to take about 8 tablets a day. I got a letter from the doctor stating that I have to take the medication with me and that my epipen (for allergy's) on the plane with me. But i was just wondering if anyone had any trouble with security regarding this?

Thanks Heaps Lauren

Lauren, I haven't had personal experience. I have close friends who travel with epipens for herself and her baby. They have been to the US and Canada recently and as far I know has had no dramas. My MIL also travel with a lot of pain medication (strong ones). She has a letter too and so far also no dramas. They've travelled to Europe, the middle East and Asia this past year. Would you like me to ask them specifically if they do anything special whilst going through security?

I have been travelling with epipens for years (30 years and to many countries around the world, actually before the epipen were invented, I had to carry a syringe with a vial of adrenaline). I have never once been stopped and I have always carried two epipens on the plane. I also have other prescription medications and i have never been stopped for those either in any country I've visited.

I do always carry a letter from the DR just in case and always take the tablets and one of the epipens in their boxes (so have the chemist and prescription details on them).

I used to travel with my grandmother too and she took dozens of tablets a day for different things and they were in webster packs and she was never stopped either.

I think to be on the safe side, have the letter that you already have and carry the tablets in their correct boxes and you will be fine :thumbsup2

Thank you both for your replies. I have never had to travel with any medication (other than the pill):rolleyes1 before so I wasn't sure If they check or if there s anything special I have to do,

Thanks again Lauren

Lauren, we have just done our first trip with an epipen, and had no questions asked. I did have a letter from DS's allergy doc stating that we were carrying the epipen's and steroids.

Thanks Jade,

I am carrying steroid nasal spray lol. Yeah I didnt think it would be as complex as it was when i went to the allergy doctor but now i feel like i could run my own pharmacy :lmao:

Thanks again everyone you have out my mind at ease.

Lauren
