We are still undecided what to do about our long aug trip. I saw my surgeon this week and there is no sign of any repairing or bone growth in my broken leg. He is still optimistic it's fixable in time but he did say I can travel while wearing the external fixation on it. I would probably book a extra leg room flight or just upgrade to pe as the cage is large and bulky. Am I allowed to take my blood clot injections in my luggage?
If I do travel with it still in the frame will I be able to ride anything or be allowed in the shows?also are wheel chairs available at all the parks, I am getting better on my crutches and should be fully weight baring on my leg in the next month but I know won't manage a full Disney day on my feet.
What do you do with crutches etc if you are allowed on some rides?

also will we be able to using disabled parking at the parks or do you need a long term disability.
Will I be able to stay in my wheelchair for dinner or do the expect you to transfer to a chair if able

Is there any resorts , restaurants, attractions that are very unaccessible

Are you still planning a road trip? If so I honestly don't think I would go spending a lot of time in the car would be uncomfortable I would guess.

In fact I think I would think twice about Disney as well - it will still be there when your leg is healed. As there is no sign of progress yet I think being near the medical team might also be prudent.

As for Disney you can hire wheelchairs at all the parks but most rides I think you will struggle with leg room.

I would re-book for next year when you are fit and well as you will miss out with your leg as it is.

I broke my foot a few years ago on a cruise after our Disney holiday. I was so glad that we'd had the Disney part as I really don't know how I would have managed. I was in a cast and on crutches as it was a bad break and my DH had to push me in a wheelchair throughout the whole cruise. I did enjoy the holiday but there was so much that I couldn't do. Fortunately we'd booked PE but even so the flight was pretty uncomfortable. I'm with Elise - book again when you're fully fit.

If you have a uk blue badge you can apply for a temporary (red) florida disability tag that will allow you topark in any disabled bay in florida (uk blue badge might be sufficient at disney's theme parks but not outside of property

If you don't have one, enquire with the osceola tax office, and you might ned to go there in person to request for a temporary parking permit (costs $15)

DO NOT park in blue bays u less you have that tag or it will cost you dearly

Also feel free to ask your questions on the DISabilities board they're helpful and knowledgable

Companies hire wheelchairs and scooters for the duration should be cheaper than hiring daily.

Have you priced insurance?

Yes I have priced insurance it's almost £400 if I go with the frame still on my leg or £198 if the frame is off and I declare the break and 2 surgerys. My surgeon was very firm I have to have excellent insurance as it needs to cover worst case full ilizarov external fixator surgery.

No big road trip, plans will be super scaled back even if the cage is off the leg. I won't be doing any of the driving so what was going to be a busy non Disney very active trip ,will prob be a lazy onsite. As we are there over 3 week we can take things very slow and are hoping to just do a few park hours then laze by the pool.

Honestly, as you only go every couple of years I would wait. Do the trip you want next year. I am sure insurance will cover the cancellation of your flights.

Hun,
In all honesty there is not alot of rides you can do with a cage,
At the most it would be the very baby friendly ones due to bumps and space on rides. A cage is very different to a cast that they do allow alot of rides.

Would you really be happy going knowing you could have been doing so much more there, I totally know how you feel as I've had to scale back many trips due to the head surgeries.
Also it's a very hot time of year. Would you not be majorly uncomfortable sat in a wheelchair?
I know I was when I went in 2008 for my disney wedding, sat in a chair in the September heat was bad enough! And.... No swimming
I know this isn't what you want to hear.
Show wise you would be able to see them as you would be seated in the disability sections,
Restaurants do have tables and provision I place for wheelchair users, they have lifts etc for places that are not on ground level.

I am undecided still, it was always planned as a low budget more chilled trip with a return Disney visit soon to avatar land. My mind set at the moment is I spend all day miserable at home so even if we just get a villa n hang around there, private pool, go out evening , eat nice food so may as well do it there

I am almost rid of the wheelchair and just been moved from one to one physio to a cage leg mixed class so physically I'm doing well but was no healing on my last X-ray, visit surgeon thud 21st so still hoping for good news

I can swim with it on so that's a huge advantage , do t fancy doing the beach anymore as I have 24 holes in my leg I would rather not get sand in

Our countdown seems to be going at double speed now I wish we had a longer one

Can see me frantically booking hotels from the airport lol I'm still hopefully we make the trip but not planning or booking anything

you can take your medication in hand luggage you need a letter from your clinic/GP, even if your up and about on crutches I would still hire a wheel chair for the park days, it'll make it a lot less tiring. As people have already said you will struggle and not be able to go on some rides if you still have the leg brace on. There's lot you will still be able to do and I'm sure you'll have a good time anyway.
