We're travelling from Canada to Disney in 2 weeks and don't want to carry alot of cash with us. We will use our visa cards for some things but want to also use travellers cheques.

I know that travellers cheques are a pretty old fashioned way to pay while travelling now but we want to know if we do have them (in US $ of course) will the restuarants and stores in Orlando accept them with proper I.D.?

Our bank debit cards don't work in the U.S. - we've tried in Buffalo many times so I know that they don't work.

Travelers Checks are an accepted form of payment at Walt Disney World. You can verify this on the Walt Disney website under Guest Services. Hope this helps!

I'm not really worried about Disney World but the stores and restaurants outside of the World (i.e. Walmart, Olive Garden, etc.)

Walmart and Target near WDW should be fine with traveller's cheques. I know we used one at the Supertarget on 192 (Rolling Hills) in the past with no problem. Your worst case scenario is that the cashier will have to call their supervisor to get instructions on how to process the tender.

For your scenario, maybe bring a mix of $100 bills and $100 traveller's cheques if you aren't comfortable carrying only cash. That way it will all fit in your wallet. If unsure about offsite, use the $100 TCs to purchase small dollar transactions at WDW to cash them.
As long as your are diligent with your cash, carry it on your person and split it amongst your party, you should be fine. I would not risk leaving even a TC in a hotel safe (but that's just IMO).

If its an inconvenience, just use your credit card - with the USD being so cheap for us Canadians, it's a steal!

Have a great trip!:wizard:

You mean they don't work at the cashier? We have never had a bank card not work in an ATM and they are everywhere. We have also had some luck in stores now in Florida-we often try just to see at the cashier. I had heard too many people having trouble cashing travellers cheques so we never bother with them anymore just go to a bank machine as needed.
