Traveling with pins

We are flying to Orlando and taking ME. We will let them get our luggage for us. We are arriving before noon, so after checking in we are going to a park. Will they allow the little girl, her first trip, to carry her starter pin trading set on the plane or does it need to be packed in the checked luggage?

I always pack the kids' pins in our carry ons. We don't lock our checked bags and I have heard horror stories about things like that disappearing. I know they are not "valuables" per se (no real rare ones or anything), but they are to my kids!

There are many pin people who wouldn't dream of checking their beloved pins, I am one of them.
There were times back when pin trading started when WDW would have pin events and over 1000 people would flock to WDW for the weekend and drag along all their pins. The airport security knew when there was an event because we would all be on Friday flights and leave WDW on Monday.
I miss those monthly pin events, they were so much fun.
