Planning a trip April 2010 and trying to decide which restuarants to choose. My mom is a very pickey eater. Doesn't like any seasoning, other than salt & pepper. Won't eat pasta, pizza, or any ethnic foods. Does anyone have suggestions? When we went in 2008 we had a very hard time with her. She really like breakfast at 1900 Park Fare, and dinner at Captian Jacks (when they offered lobster tail, not on the menu now:sad2:) The rest of the meals she picked at & didn't eat much. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What a drag! Usually people are worried about what their picky KIDS are going to eat!

How about trying the 50s Prime Time Cafe at Hollywood Studios? Their menu (fried chicken, pot pie, meatloaf) might be just the kind of food your mom likes! Haven't been yet, but excited to try it in a couple weeks!

Well, the good news is that being an adult - She can decide whether she wants to eat there or not. I think that YOU should eat where you would like (for the most part) and if she'd rather use a snack or CS credit instead, she can just sit and share your dessert at the TS place.

Buffets would be my best suggestion for compromise - salads, soups, meats, tons to choose from for any appetite.

And don't forget - you can ask for some adjustments on the TS menus. At LeCellier I asked for the filet MINUS the mushrooms and sauce. They can make accomodations (at least in some cases). Be sure to ask! I've asked for my kids pasta to come with butter instead of sauce att some places with no issues.

My mom, too, is very picky. But I wouldn't have a problem eating anyplace in the world with her (well, except for the ethnic foods). She would just ask for something without sauce or get a salad.

Sounds like your mom likes seafood - try Clam Bake at The Beach Club. YUMMY!!! Clams and shrimp and clam chowder - lots of salads. Love it!

I agree that you should eat where you want to. Buffets are a way around picky tendencies as the picker can pick their own bits and pieces! ;)

What DOES she like to eat? It may be easier to find a few places that serve something she does like. There is variety in the TS restaurants. I am not a great lover of pasta, pizza and the like, but I am spoilt for choice at Disney. I also don't eat red meat and various other things.... I would consider myself picky in the food department and had no problem.

I have 2 scenerios for you (these have happened to me)

1. Traveling with our nieces who are very picky eaters...we would do all TS breakfasts because they love that type of food and we did a few TS dinners and it was a waste of $ because they didnt like their food at all.

2. Traveling with my best friend who is super duper picky...we did alot of TS dinners but she would eat at a CS ahead of time and just drink a soda with us at our meal.

Some of the TS restaurants offer grilled chicken with pasta side or grilled fish with a rice side for children. Maybe you could substitute her dinner for this? They are both pretty plain. I know they have it at CRT and a few others. :)

Maybe you could print off a few of the menus for her from allears.com.

I'm picky too....what about burgers and steak? Here's some of the things we had last time.

Sci fi has good angus chuck burgers at lunchtime, also a pretty decent shake.

Rose & Crown has good fish & chips & apple crumble

50's Primetime - fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and shakes!

Coral Reef - steak

LeCellier - I second the comment about holding the mushrooms off the steak. We had a very nice meal here. Cheese soup, pretzl bread, steak, and mashed potatoes.

As far as counter services go, we liked Cosmic Rays the best. The burgers tasted flamed grilled. And I think they had a fixins bar.

I didn't see anything I liked at Animal Kingdom except maybe a pulled pork BBQ sandwich at Flametree. But our son won't eat anything there. So we're loading up on a big breakfast that day at Whispering Canyon Cafe. Then at AK, we'll just have a hot pretzl and some fruit from the Harambe Fruit stand. Then an early dinner.

Have fun planning!

That's funny; not only is my mom a somewhat "meat and pototoes" person herself - although she does like a bit of seafood too - she is also a very quick eater.

I have to laugh, because a few years ago, we went to Williamsburg and she insisted on rockfish (the only seafood she will eat). They informed her the chef had to send the shipment back because it was not to his liking, but offered up another fish with the similar taste (is it Red Snapper I am thinking of?). She raved about it all night. A few years later we went out and she wanted rockfish, but it was not in season. I suggested whatever she had previously, and she looked at me, "Gosh, no, I would never order that again." Geeeeeezzzzzz. I cannot win.

Usually when we go out to eat, I am finishing up my first glass of wine and she is staring at me to get our meal ordered and into the kitchen. We get our meal and I am on my second glass of wine and leisurely eating my meal and she is done in about fifteen minutes. I am casually looking over the menu for some dessert and one more glass of wine to finish off the evening leisurely and she is holding her purse in her lap with her coat on.......Gosh and we do travel a lot. I just kinda grin and bear it. I know when I go out after work with friends or on trips by myself or with friends, I know I get to take my time.

Now, my stepmother is another one. She and I have taken a few trips and she is a very adventuresome eater, loves her wine with dinner and loves to savor the experience, just like me. But, gosh she loves eating dinner late - like 8:00 or 9:00 pm at night. I am usually in bed by 10:00, so I am laying there in pain trying to get to sleep. She is a real nightowl. Again, we find some compromise, because the experience with your mom is what is most important.

Thanks to all that responded!!! I did have my mom look at some menu's & we decided that lunch & breakfast were going to be some of our best options for TS.

I'm traveling with a group of very picky eaters as well. My father and I are really adventerous in our taste, so we decided that since were the trip co-ordinators, and nobody really had anything to say when we asked them where they wanted to eat (not as important to them), we just made ADRs for what we wanted. We told them that we reserved them a seat, but if they didn't want to come...they didn't have too. We also said that if they wanted to, they could come along, have a dessert or an appetizer, or even just a drink, and then we'd go get CS somewhere else.

Last time I had to skip my ADRs for Boma and Le Cell because of my picky group...not this time.:goodvibes
