Traveling with Baby? Be Prepared For Some Colds....

We just got back and had a great time, other than our little guy getting sick. So, remember to bring thermometers for taking temps and some infants motrin or tylenol. Our DS got the Croup the last 2 days with a very high fever. And there were several parents that we ran into whose little ones got sick while there too - and we all commented on how hard it is to find thermometers on the Disney property. If they do get sick, though, the clinics onsite are very helpful and will do a pick up at whatever resort you're staying at. The clinic Docs commented on the abundance of Croup cases they've seen this month. Yuck - not a fun thing for babies. And since Croup is worse at night, make sure you're prepared (that's when the thermom. and Motrin come in handy - so you're not waiting it out till morning).

Our DD 1, came down with a cold the night we were driving home. It hung around for a while.
I always travel with a thermometer and tylenol. They don't take up much space.

This is terrible to admit. The Tuesday before the Thursday we were to begin our 2 day January car trip to WDW our daughter got strep throat. Took her to the doctor and he gave her antibotics and something for her cough. Our DS 1 year old began to show symtoms (sp) during the visit so he gave him the same. We thought the trip was over but the doctor said since we were driving, and the kids would be sitting, to go ahead and go and they would be all better by the time we got there. Here's the guilty part, we went and it was great. From all of the medicine both kids slept both days all the way down. Yeah. I payed for it though because I got sick on the way down, wound up with pneumonia and a big bill from Doctors on Call in Orlando.

We always travel with Thermoter, motrin, asthma stuff, allergy medication, child's stool softener, childs nausua (sp) medicine, bandaids, tape, gause, and antibotic ointments. We have used all of the above on one trip or another. Disney Hotels do not have a wide variety of medicines. Don't forget to travel with the adult versions of the above.

My DH is now dealing with the adult version of our DS's Croup. Fortunately, we got home the day it struck him. Like Deb305 said, it's hard to find the stuff on Disney property that will "ease the pain."

I did notice when we were there in October that Children's Motrin is now carried in the little convenient store at the resorts. This is new since last December when we were there and needed it. That trip we had to go off site to get some.

We are experienced at getting sick at WDW :( . Fortunately, Centra Care is a quick trip away. :D

There is a pharmacy that delivers right to your room! I am drawing a total blank on the name. the prices did not seemmto be anymore. You are charged on the credit card you leave at the front desk. And you can either go down and pick it up. Or they will take pity on you and bring it up if you are stuck in the room. I used this service 3 times it was great!

Does anyone have a number for Centra Care? Is this a clinic close by? How do you get there if you don't have a car? I'm leaving in a few days and DD5 is sick with a cold/croup from what I can tell. I'm worried DD13months will come down with the same. I want to be prepared just in case. Thanks for any advice.

You might want to throw a mini flash light into the luggage too. DD and DH both got hit with a stomach virus and spent the night travelling to the bathroom when a power outage hit the hotel!! There I am with DS's Buzz Lightyear light up toy over their heads by the toilet...whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!! Buzz Lightyear to the rescue!!!

It wasn't too funny then but now it's hilarious!

Centra Care will come and pick you up with a shuttle service. There are carseats equipped in the van so you don't need to lug yours. .I don't know the phone # - the front desk connected us directly to Centra Care. Centra Care will ask you how many travelers you have (in the shuttle) and will determine which Centra Care clinic (there are a few) can move you along the fastest. I do know that Centra Care opens it's phone service at 8:00/8:30 am and is not a 24 hour clinic. Otherwise you may need to take a trip to the emergency room if you're needing immediate care. The Wilderness Lodge had paramedics come to our room at 2:30 am just to make sure our DS was ok. That's always an option as well. Hopefully you need any of these services, but rest assured, there are options ;)

Hey viluvsdisney,
we also were at the lodge over Halloween and the kids got croup!! We ended up at Centracare where they prescribed some medication. Now we're home and the rest of the kids are sick, as well as mom & dad :( . I'm never suprised at getting sick from being at Disney, there is just such a huge volume of people and germs you are in contact with. Hope your son is better.

Hope you're better soon too. The WL was very helpful in directing us towards help :D After our DS got sick, it seemed like you could hear that croup cough every where in Disney - so it shouldn't have come as a suprise. Get well soon ;)
