Traveling with an infant...question.

We are leaving in 22 days for POP! We are so excited.

At the time of the trip our kids will be 2 1/2 and 2 mo. We are thinking about NOT bringing a car seat for the 2 mo. old since we are flying (lap child) and using ME.

Our only concern is what to do with DS during dinner. He is too small to sit in a high chair and we have a double stroller that is huge.

Any ideas?

I'd bring the carseat - however, I loved mine to have an extra place to put the baby. How about bringing a single stroller, and a snap-n-go? They are so handy!

I would bring the car seat. If there's an extra seat on the plane they might let you use it.

You never know if you're going to end up in a cab. Of all the places to skimp, I wouldn't on safety.

Some restaurants have infant high chairs that you can use. I know Chef Mickey's did but not sure about the others. If you take your infant carrier, then you can always use a regular high chair turned upside down. That is what we did when my DD was 3 months old. We gate checked the infant carrier & stroller and then we had it whenever we needed it.

To echo PPs, I would bring the car seat. If there's an empty seat on the plane they'll likely let you put the baby there, if not you can gate check it along with your stroller. You can find a bag to put the car seat in to help protect it from dirt and the elements. I would think the huge double stroller you're referring to will be one you can snap the infant car seat into, since at 2 months old an umbrella-type stroller won't be an option. If that's the case, bringing the car seat along isn't that much more work, and then you'll have the car seat for the baby in restaurants. I think more places at WDW are starting to get those infant highchairs.

We are bringing our double stroller with us. It is just too large to bring into a restaurant (don't know if that is an option).

If we bring the carseat we will gate check it because I've read too many horror stories about car seats being damaged when they were checked or never arriving. I do have a car seat bag.

I am just worried about getting on/off the buses. My DH will have to carry the stroller, which will leave me carrying the car seat and helping me 2 1/2 y.o. DD. It would just be easier to slide my DS in a sling getting on/off the bus.

Oh well. I wish there was some type of infant high chair. Maybe I need to invent one.

What about a bouncy seat? They collapse down and you could snap it back up when you eat.

You know how some stores have infant carriers built onto their carts? Some restaurants have that too.

Just brainstorming here, but what about a moses basket? Would that be too small? Can't think of anything else right now, but will ponder it.

I am bringing my 3 month old, but we are driving so will have our carrier to attach to the double stroller...

How about putting the baby in the sling in restaurants.? I did that with my kids until they were big enoughto sit in a highchair. Most Disney restaurants tell you to park your stroller but if you ask nicely, some people will let you bring it in if the table they are seating you at is out of the way.

we brought our infant seat with us because we had a rental car, but never took it out of the car.
Crystal Palace also has the special infant seat high chairs.
Most of the time DD just stayed int he bjorn because it's easier.
At Ikea you can buy these blow-up things that you sit in a highchair for smaller babies. But, I'm pretty sure we didn't start using it till DD was about 4-5 months.

We brought our 3 mos. old son last year and took the infant carrier...even though we went back and forth on it. It was a lifesaver during dinners so we could eat without holding him. It was also wonderful during the day, we could snap him in the stroller and cover him with both shades to keep him out of the sun and let him nap. You can check it at the gate at the airport and they will put it under the bus on ME, too. Have fun! It's a great stage to go with....it was such a magical trip for us. Dont forget your baby bjorn...it's a lifesaver!!! Have fun!!!

I am reading this w/ interest b/c we will be there at Easter w/ a 2 month old, just turned 4 year old and 6 year old.

I keep thinking we need to bring the carseat b/c boy will the baby ever be spoiled rotten if she gets held non-stop for 10 days !!!!....

the logistics are killing me ... our mac twin traveler for the big kids and then a buy a snap n go for the baby? will we be miserable on and off the bus and monorail?

we are staying at shades of green...

or should we just do the double mac and put the baby in the sling or bjorn if both big girls need to ride...that way we will only have one stroller along..

should we just rent a car? we will have either my in-laws or husbands god=parents w/ us most of the time to help b/c we were not planning this trip! I am in a WDW wedding over Easter. Heaven help me, she is my best friend and I could not say No, this sounds like a nightmare w/ newborn at the busiest week of the year....

We just visited with 5 month old twins. No way we could bring the infant carriers! We were able to bring our double Combi stroller into every restaurant-- even CRT! Some restaurants did stipulate that both babies had to be sleeping in order to bring the stroller in!

I did see a few of those infant "high chairs" too-- the PP poster's description of a shopping cart infant seat on a wooden base is perfect.

Maybe you can call and check to see if the places where you're dining have the infant high chairs.

I agree it would be difficult to bring on the disney buses-- especially when crowded. A few years back, my SIL brought one along for her daughter and it was tough to travel with between hotels and parks.

We were in Disney with our 6 month old in April and then again in August. If you are riding the Magical Express I highly recommend you bring the car seat with you. Our bus made a very ABRUPT stop while leaving the Boardwalk Hotel and everyone went flying!! Some people even flew into the aisles. My mom slammed her knees into the seat - which left her legs very bruised. A few little kids really hurt themselves - mostly because they were standing in their seats though. It wasn't a great way to start our trip that was for sure. Anyway - Even though there are no seat belts on the bus my husband was holding the car seat sideways on the seat very tightly. If we didn't have that car seat with us and he was in one of our arms - the baby would have definitely been hurt. We just thank god he was buckled in his seat! So you may want reconsider bringing the car seat! Oh and on our August trip back the Magical Express people (Mears) wouldn't let us bring the seat on the bus. I told them what happened on the last trip and they still told us no! I was so mad and started to tell the lady off when the bus driver came to bat for us and said we could bring the seat on. So don't let anyone push you around.....

When my baby was that age, I just wore her in a sling while we ate. Most of the time I was able to avoid dropping food on her head, but not always.

She would usually sleep or just relax. As other people have said, some restaurants do have infant high chairs too. We used one at Crystal Palace.

Impossible to spoil a 2 month old . With two older children, putting the baby in a sling or something similar is very convenient. I like the pouch style slings for that age. I had a moby wrap too that was great, especially when you were going to be wearing it for a while. Newborns love being close to mommy.

It'll be OK.

Impossible to spoil a 2 month old . With two older children, putting the baby in a sling or something similar is very convenient. I like the pouch style slings for that age. I had a moby wrap too that was great, especially when you were going to be wearing it for a while. Newborns love being close to mommy.

Agreed. And baby won't be spoiled even if you do hold baby the whole time. Only old food spoils, not children who are held.
