Any advice on traveling with a DSLR and not carrying a specific camera bag?
I want to be able to put it in my regular backpack when I'm traveling. I have a Disney trip, and a cruise coming up and I would rather not have to carry an extra bag into the park, or onto the ship.
So what would my other options be?

I'd get something like a Zing case to protect the camera while it's in your bag. And if you bring any lenses get a lens pouch or case for the same reason. And use other padding of some sort when you are traveling such as a couple of shirts or a sweatshirt to provide more cushion in your backpack while on the airplane.

I have a Lenscoat bodybag that I keep on my camera. It does a good job of protecting the camera from bumps. I did try the Zing case mentioned but the Bodybag is way faster for me to get off and on than the Zing so if you go this route figure out which style is easier for you. Lenscoat also makes padded lens bags if you need to stash an additional lens or two in your bag. I also usually keep my camera out in the parks, either around my neck or worn across my body, so I have a comfy strap which to me is a must anyway because the stock straps just are not comfortable.
