I am thinking about going to WDW solo in Jan. or Feb 2006. I am not sure how long i should stay and the best place to stay and what to do. I have always traveled with my GF. We have always planned it for the both of us. It is really a different thing doing it solo. Any suggestions or recommendations would help.

hey it is completely up to you.

what is your favorite park?

not your gf - but yours.

if you can afford it get a hotel close to your favorite park

Epcot - BC/YC/BCV, BW/bwv, D/S - also works for the Studios

MK/Epcot - Polyn

MK - Cont, Polyn, Gf, Wl/VWL, FW

AK - AKL

if you want to stay money the budgets are great

Pop Century is my favorite here.

or you can rent points from a DVC member and stay in a deluxe with a kitchennett - they have studio, 1, 2 or 3 bedroom.

the 1 bedroom and up have a full kitchen.

these are VWL, BCV, BWV, OKW and SSR (the newest - next to DD)

or if you are brave you can stay offsite. You need a car for offsite.

I am traveling to Disney January 1-5. This will be my first solo trip. I can't wait to go. I will be staying at AS Sports (as that is all I can afford :p ).

I think the studio villas/DVC are the best, especially at the Epcot resort area. I'm partial to BCV because as a solo, it's easier to grab something at BC Marketplace than to partake of any of the TS options around the Boardwalk. And as a single, it's less difficult to get a seat at B&C, a great plus to me, as long as you don't mind sitting at the counter (there's more to watch there anyways). I've also been comfortable staying at POR and although I haven't stayed at POFQ solo, I bet that would be OK too.
I've taken 8 solo trips, so if you have any more questions, I'd be happy to give you my experiences.

I travel alot to Disney solo, my favorite place to stay is the WL......it's so convenient to the MK and it also has a great nature trail to walk. You probably could get some deals there in January. It's not so large that you get lost and the lobby is a great place to have a cup of coffee and relax. I also like the POFQ it is smaller than POR and the grounds there are beautiful. I just do not like the values, I guess because I perfer a more subdued atmosphere. This last trip........last week I did a charcter dinner at 1900 Park Fare. If you put out your dates I am sure there are some disers that would be happy to meet you for a day if you would like some company. The nice thing about going solo is you do what you want when you want!

Going solo, you won't need as much time as you would with someone else. I find that I can do everything solo in 5 days (though I stay for 8.)

I went solo in October, stayed at the Holiday Inn International drive without a car and had a great time. this time I am going back in September to Disney All Star Music, because I only slept in the hotel so why pay for thing I will not use and for some reason I didn't get charged a single room suppliment for it saving £375 or in dollars $637.

I went solo in October for 4 days, and had a blast. The best part is that you can do what you want, when you want, and you don't have to answer to anybody. You can move much quicker through the parks and get as much done as you want. In 4 days, I got to see everything I wanted to. Go for it!! I defintely will plan another solo trip.

I recommend Pop Century.
It was great for the short amount of time I was ever in the room.
Great music in the 70's building.

I've gone solo several times. Some thoughts...

Make some dining reservations - one of my favorites was Calif. Grill - I sat at the counter and talked with the sushi chefs - was really fun. In Downtown Disney - Wolfgang Puck's also has a counter seat where the chef told me all about how the food was made and spices used. Another trick when dining out is to bring some postcards to write or a book just in case.

Take a tour, EPCOT Segway Tour, any of the backstage tours at theme parks. You may meet some folks.

Plan to see the attractions/shows that you really want at each park

Remember the single rider lines at Mission Space and Test Track (are there other ones? ... wishing for one at Rock N Roller Coaster)

Book a Spa visit

Rent a boat or bike - From Wilderness Lodge you can bike to Fort Wilderness. There is is buffet lunch at Trails End (check availability - may be not be open all the time) that is really nice. The little motor boats are fun - rent from Wilderness Lodge or Contemporary - more fun than at Yacht/Beach or Boardwalk.

Don't forgot your camera, cast members or other people are usually happy to take a picture of you with a character or certain background.

have fun!

The single rider lines are the best!!! Also remember to keep your ears open for CMs shouting for people riding single (or flying solo in the case of Soarin).

Be relaxed and prepared to talk interact with people. There are plenty of people who are equally relaxed. Or if its during the Food and Wine festival really relaxed. Speaking of adult activities...if you can afford it I would pick a hotel in close proximity to evening venues...so although the parks are fun and all that I would select an EPCOT resort including Swan/Dolphin or Saratoga Springs' Congress Park section...or the far end of the Paddocks, or one of the non-Disney hotels closest to DTD. Perhaps OKW as well but the walk from OKW to DTD...even the Westside...seemed tad on the long side.

If its warm I'd rent a mouseboat or maybe try a trip to one of the spas. Onsite or offsite if there is something you always wanted to do and it was the company you keep stopping you rather than finances...do it!!!

Oh and the waterparks can be fun on your own as well.

I just made my first solo trip. I was on a business trip in Orlando, and I couldn't resist hitting the parks. The best was Epcot. I wandered around the World Showcase and talked at length with some of the foreign CM's about what it is like to come over and represent their countries, as well as get their take on ours. I was also able to buy my wife some great gifts that will make an excellent Christmas surprise.
