Traveling Question (Taxi)

We're flying in for our very first cruise the day before we sail away from Port Canaveral on January 12th. We're a group of 6 that has been to WDW 8x and DL 1x in the last 6 years, but we know NOTHING about DCL.

We haven't booked our note for the night before and we weren't sure if we should book a room around the airport and travel to the port the next day (planned on traveling Mears) or if we should get a Mears taxi to the port and then find transportation to the port the following day.

I've done some homework, but I haven't seen but one hotel that provides a shuttle service to the port and Mears charges way too much just to come out to Cape Canaveral and drive you a couple miles.

Are there any good taxi services around Cape Canaveral? Should we just stay in Orlando the day before?

Any help is appreciated.

Country Inn & Suites has a shuttle bus. Taxis are available as well.

Mco and the port are about an hour away from each other. Taxis will not be cheap.

We took a car service from MCO to the hotel, then a taxi around town, then the hotel shuttle bus to the ship.

We used Goportcanaveral.com to book our hotel and transportation for our cruise last January and are using them again for our next 2 cruises. They have a lot of hotels in both Orlando and PC to choose from. You might be able to get a good deal since your cruise is coming up soon, however the choice of hotels could also be limited since it's so close to your cruise. If you do a search on here you will see reports from others on here who have used them, all positive reports.

I've used shuttles, Uber, taxis and my own car to get to the port from Cocoa/Canaveral. I prefer my own car and then, in order, Uber, Taxi and shuttles. I don't like sitting and waiting on a shuttle for as long 30-45 minutes as they slowly load everybody else to get back to the hotel. I'd sooner get in my own car, Uber or a taxi to get on my own way quicker than waiting on everybody else.

I've driven in from Orlando as well. Not sure I liked it all that much, but that's what we're doing in February just because we're at Bonnet Creek until 10 Saturday morning. We'll take our time getting there just so we don't have to stand in line forever waiting for the doors to open.

Thanks, I'm going to look into this. I guess these are shuttles, right? Like @phinz said, I prefer a Lyft to a shuttle because of the waiting, but I've never attempted to get an uber or Lyft for a 1 hour drive, so I'm not sure how readily available they are (i.e., how willing the drivers are to take a fare that long).

We have used our own car when we have driven to Florida (from WDW to Port) and we have used a one-way rental car and parked a rental at the port (when we were staying in Florida post cruise). We have also taken DCL transportation ($35 pp each way and they handle your luggage) which is the most convenient. If you opt for DCL transfers I would stay at a hotel near the airport the night before or even at WDW the night before.

Yes they are shuttles. We waited about 10 mins at the airport for it to take us to our hotel, the hotel's van came and got us. The next morning the shuttle came and got us at the stated time. Both of these were vans that held about 12 people. After the cruise we took a huge bus to the airport. At that time goport used Stylus shuttle service. They no longer use them, they now have their own shuttles. Haven't used them since they started using their own, so can't comment about them. However, we were happy with all aspects last time.

I have all our transportation booked except for getting back from the cruise ship to the airport. We have main seating dining, so when should I arrange a taxi to come pick us up?

If you go to your assigned breakfast seating, it's usually at 6:45. Depends on how quickly you think you'll be done and off the ship. Why do you need to arrange a taxi? Don't they have taxis there?

I have no clue - this is my first cruise. We usually like traveling Mears and i was going to book it through them because I get a discount.
