Hi all,

Going to drive from NJ and want to get a really nice hotel (family is picky..lol) somewhere I would say the half way point which I think would be North or South Carolina. Anyone know of really nice hotels not too far off of I95? Thanks - Tom

I'm in New Jersey, and I've always been partial to Hotel Florence in Florence, SC. It's a great little hotel, about 10 minutes off of 95. The rooms are quite nice, and clean; they have a really good restaurant and bar too. I find that it's a bit more than halfway (coming from central Jersey, not including any stops, it takes about 9 hours to get there, and another 7 the following day to Disney).

I drove from Long Island a few weeks ago and stopped in Rocky Mount, NC. Lots of hotel choices right off of 95.

Have you thought about taking the Amtrak Auto Train? The train leaves from Lorton, VA with direct service to Sanford, FL daily.. Your vehicle is transported in a cargo car.. Great way to save on driving time plus overnight accommodations

I am looking for the same info, we will be driving and stopping halfway, DD20 and DD18 can assist with driving, so we are thinking stopping somewhere towards the end of SC.

Maybe get a hotel on the way down and taking the auto train on the way home (when we are so tired and sad to be leaving)?

We live in Pa but less than 10 miles from Trenton. We stop at Santee Georgia so the last leg is less than 5 hours.

We enjoyed the auto train a few years ago, spent extra for the priority disembark when arriving in Sanford. Food was surprisingly good for dinner. Might save it for the ride home, it is so much easier to drive those long hours to Orlando when anticipating the fun in Disney!

Autotrain is very expensive

I just finished booking our night. The Hampton Inn, Santee, SC, Exit 98. We have stopped here before. Clean and breakfast included. All the years driving we have only stayed at one Hampton Inn that was so/so. Coming home in VA. It's either Holiday Inn or Hampton Inn for us.

I never book before we leave home. We leave at a different time, not sure how the drive is, stops, traffic, etc. I have called and booked a room from the car once a few times. BUT we have also arrived at the Hampton Inn or the Holiday Inn a few times only to be told, "fully booked". We would have to drive to another exit.

I called the hotel and she said since it's early March, looks good right now but you never know. I went ahead and booked it. Our friends are also driving a different day and they booked two different locations. Will cancel one while on the road.
