Is anyone pretty knowledgeable about how the insurance works with DVC
Never purchased before this trip
I booked airfare-5k and used points from 2 use years
other expenses also but these are the two biggies

Question: If I cancel the trip(this will be due to school calendar changing) then can I try to rebook my points and just get my airfare back? or is it considered a whole package and if I submit my claim for reimbursement I can use those two years worth of points?

I appreciate your comments/thoughts/knowledge- I haven't called them yet, but wanted to get as much info as possible before I do

Thanks

I believe that if you cancel your points-trip after the date when you would just forfeit points, when you submit the claim the way you'll be reimbursed is to get your dues for those points back.

If you cancel it before you lose your points, you would just have the points, so you would not submit a claim.

I would assume that the air tickets would be reimbursed with cash.

Googled and found this: http://advc.disney.go.com/media/dvc...tionplanning/travelex/DVC_Travelex_COI_V2.pdf

Assuming cancellation is for a covered reason.....

"The Insurer will pay the following up to the maximum benefit
shown in the Schedule of Coverage:
(a)
non-refundable Maintenance Charges* or dues value of
Points and/or applicable Exchange Fees. Maintenance
Charges or dues value of Points will only be reimbursed
if the Timeshare Trip can not be rescheduled; "

"airfare cancellation fees and/or change fees up $1,000 per
reservation for flights in connection with the Timeshare Trip
commencing within two days of the Timeshare Trip;"

Maybe the PDF above is outdated, and you should definitely check, but I don't see "school calendar changing" as an allowable reason to file a claim with them.

I'm not a Travelex expert, but I checked the policy which I purchased last December for my 2014 UY points. It indicates they will reimburse for "the amount of forfeited, prepaid, non-refundable, and unused Payments or Deposits, Exchange Fees, Maintenance Charges and/or Guest Fees that you paid for your Covered Trip." I believe that means you would only be paid the MF on the points if you had to forfeit them, so if you can use them later, they wouldn't pay. There is no mention that you Have to forfeit them and since that wouldn't benefit the insurance company, I can't imagine they would require that. I also checked on the school schedule issue and that is covered. Covered Reason # 14 is "the primary or secondary school where the Insured attend(s) must extend its operating session beyond its predefined school year, due to unforeseeable events commencing during the Policy effective period, which cause the extension of the predefined school year and the Scheduled Departure Date falls within the period of the school year extension. Extensions due to extra-curricular or athletic events are not covered." Hope that helps.
