I'm not sure what to do. Should I bring all travelers cheques with me for food and souvenirs? I'll have a credit card as well. This is my first trip without my parents so I need some advice from you experienced dis'ers.
Thanks!

Had the same dilemma... I always bring my credit cards but also traveler cheques. I guess I do not want to use my credit card at teh ice cream carts, but for minor, quick purchases and to break bills for tips I use TC

Treeoflife, the problem with using a credit card is the exchange rate because I'm from Canada. It was doing really well until a few days ago and is starting to climb again. So who knows where it'll be when I'm there in February. I'll definitely still bring it as a back-up but I'll try and make do with the TC.

This might be a stupid question, but...
How does that work with Trav. Checks? Will any place in WDW cash them? Do they come in smaller amounts, or are they big bills? How much does your bank charge you for them? I hate the thought of carrying a lot of cash, and dh refuses to use the credit card for most things.
It is faster to ask you all this than to call my bank!

Hey Disneymom, I picked up some today. They come in different denominations, the woman asked if I wanted 50s or 100s so I took the 50s. I'm not sure if they come in other demoninations. You can cash them all over WDW from what I hear. It's safer than carrying cash, you normally need ID to cash them and if you lose them, there's a number that can be called to have them reordered and sent out. I'm a newbie to the TCs so I'm sure there are others here who can elaborate.

:earsboy: Travellers cheques are very safe. If lost or stolen they are replaced by issuer. Just keep receipt portion seperate from cheques. American Express are best but others are fine also. Most business will cash without problem although some may ask for ID. They come in many denominations $20, $50, $100. I usually get $20 and $50 and only a few $100 as some places do not like to cash the larger denomoninations.

The Front desk of the WDW resorts will cash the $100. TC's.
We like these best!! We used them as our budget for the day!! For food and must haves have to be no more than $100 for the day!!

I take 1 CC $100cash and the rest in TC. I use Amex. There is no extra charge at our bank. You will have to check out what is best for you. There used to be a Amex office at Epcot, but I don't think it is still there. that was back when Amex was the official charge card of WDW. Anyway, on the first day of my vaccation, I lost my travelers cheques. Called Amex, went to Epcot the next day and picked up new ones. Make sure you keep your papers for your TC separate from your TC. Also, keep CC and cash or any other papers separate. I personally like travelers cheques and always make sure I have them. On a side note, I did have a problem with them once. We were having dinner at the Top of the World at the Contemporary. Lovely. Chilled Strawberry soup, Duck L'orange, beautiful music, entertainment, I'm sure you can visualize the scene. Any way, I paid the waiter with my TC and the manager came back and told me she could not accept it because it was in a foreign currencey and since the banks were closed she didn't know what the rate of exchange was. I said I purchased them in Canada but they were in US$. She said no, thay were in Canadian $. I looked, and sure enough, the bank had made a mistake and even though I had paid for $US I was given $Can. TC. Was I embarased! Fortunately, I was staying at the Poly, so I just billed Dinner to my room and phoned the bank in the AM. It was stressfull in the meantime, so as a word of warning, as you are signing your cheques at the bank, make sure they are in the proper countries currency. Banks can make mistakes.
