Travelers Checques Vs ATM's

I went to the bank yesterday to exchange money to US funds. I was told that they charge 1% of the amount you want for Travel cheques, plus exchange. If we wait until we get to WDW the bank will charge $3 per withdrawal plus exchange if we use ATM's. Do the ATM's in WDW also charge a fee like up here when you don't use your own bank? So the withdrawal could be $5 plus exchange.

So now DH and I are trying to decide which way to go. :confused3

Any suggestions good or bad would be greatly appreciated.

We get our travellers cheques at CAA. Do you have a CAA membership? There is no fees for members. It might be worth asking what their non-member price is.

I'm guessing that there is an extra charge for using a US ATM. The fee would be charged in US dollars. Using ATM's to get all of the cash you need doesn't seem practical. You would have to maximize the withdrawl each time to avoid having the ATM fees be as much as the travellers cheque fee. In that case I would probably use a credit card and only carry a little cash.

The ATM's at WDW are I think 2.00/2.50 a pop to get money out of it may be more now but I am not to sure if it has changed. Just get teh TC's and leave it at that the resort will cash up to 200 a day for you so no worries at all there.

Be aware the exchange rate and various fees associated with ATMs easily add up to more than 1%.

Also make sure you have a 4 digit PIN since some machines in the US and abroad have issues with 5 and six digit PINs.

Do you have a banking package with your bank or a gold credit card? Many banks waive the 1% fee if you have a package.

Alterantively, if you just get a small amount of cash and charge everything to your room key than you can pay by credit card.
