Hi I am going home for the first time in December. We like to pay with cash and not use credit cards whenever possible. My question is, can I pay for the DDP and put money "on account" to be used by my key to the world? Also, can I use travelers checks for this transaction?

You can pay for your DDP with travelers checks. I don't know about using them to establish your room charge priviledges, though. What you can do, is put down your credit card for the room charges on your key card...but before you reach the $1500 limit, or the night before you check-out (whichever comes first) you can go to the front desk and pay those charges with travelers checks.

Dwelty, though it's been possible to pre-pay your room charge and use it like a debit card in the past, they don't allow this anymore. If you want to use the room charge, you have to attach it to a credit card. I did what Chuck S. described. I paid my room charge with traveler's checks every night or every other night to avoid any possibility of them charging my card. It worked out very well. Not only did I not over-spend, I had $100 in traveler's checks left over for my next vacation. The front desk can also change traveler's checks to cash if the amount less than $100 per day.
