:cool1: OK so I booked my next trip....May 26 - June 2, staying at Beach Club. (our first stay there). Can someone recommend a small travel tripod for my E510 as I'm interested in taking night time photos of the resort area and Boardwalk but will not be taking it into any of the parks.

Also, can you carry a small tripod onto the plane in a carry on bag?

I would second the Cullman Magic 2. While is isn't an everyday tripod, it does well for travel. I also use it for a wireless off-flash tripod/stand when doing portrait type images. Because it is a tripod and monopod it works for every situation I have encountered, so far.

I'll add a third. I purchased it last summer before a trip to hawaii. We wanted some family pictures but I was not going to take my full sized tripod. I've since used it multiple times at Disneyland for long exposures at night.

Thanks!! The Cullman sounds like it should work. Plus I like the idea of using it as a flash stand :thumbsup2

Based on this thread and some online research, I just ordered the Cullman for my upcoming trip to the World. I look forward to trying it out. Thanks to all who recommended it.

Okay, based on this thread I bought a Cullmann Magic 2 tripod. It's GREAT. Awesome piece of engineering. Now I'm worried about taking it on the plane.
I usually take only carry on luggage, but I have seen such mixed reviews on carrying tripods on the plane that I'm concerned about the Cullmann, as it does not look like a tripod at all in its folded state.

So, the question is, have any of you who own a Cullmann Magic 2 Tripod taken them as "carry ons" onto the plane or have you had to check them?

I'll let you know on Friday!:cool1: I'm flying to DC and planning on being with my carry on luggage.

Well after MUCH research, I've decided to check the tripod with my luggage. I'm not entirely happy with the solution, I HATE checking luggage, but I want to have my tripod on this trip and I don't want to take the chance in security. They just don't have a policy concerning tripods, it's up to the individual security person discretion.

I'll let everyone know how the tripod does next week. I leave Wednesday for the world. If anyone is there through the 8th, let me know. I'd like to say "hi".
