Hi wonder if anyone can help we are looking to go to WDW at Christmas but the fights are coming out very expensive. We mostly always fly with Virgin & we have loads of frequent flyer miles that we have never used can anyone give me any hints & tips what is the cheapest & best ways to cash in these points.

Thanks

Virgin had a sale a few weeks ago for there flights which included December (I assume you mean this year??)

We got over £100 off per person :cheer2::cheer2:

It will probably work out much cheaper to fly indirect if its something you would consider??? :confused3

Hope you manage to get something sorted :thumbsup2

That's just typical of our luck that they had a sale last week. We have looked at indirect but we have never done this before it just makes the journey that much longer & with a child it's not always ideal. Mind you now he is getting older it may be an idea to try this? Thanks for the advice.

Just a little annoying when you have thousands of virgin points that you can not use I feel it's a bit of a farce.

Have you looked for miles & money fares?

Unfortunately, Christmas is a peak time and the airlines know it - it is unlikely you will get any bargain fares now and also they generally won't release reward seats if they can fill them with full fare paying cash passengers

Indirect might be your best option as well as travelling out before the 14th December will most likely be your best chances.

Indirect is fine and doesn't really make the outward journey much longer at all, because you clear immigration at your first stop. For example, if it adds 3 hours to your total travel time, you're only actually adding 1.5 hours as you're then SAVING the other 1.5 hours when you arrive at Orlando as you've already cleared immigration and can just walk out of the airport :goodvibes

Don't have kids myself but lots of families travel this way and seem to manage just fine. A change of scenery, the chance to have a run around mid-journey and some "real" food, and the excitement of another takeoff and landing look to me to be the perks.

We are flying out Christmas Eve as this worked out massively cheaper.

Our flights total £3641 for 8 ppl. 4 Adults, 2 Chldren and 2 Infants.
(although we are members of a social club which discounts vouchers for VA so they actually cost 6% less than this :cool1: )

We have never managed to find a cheap enough deal to convince us to fly indirect, plus our kids are just to young. Getting through 2 airports with 4 kids is bad enough never mind adding another lol! Our Eldest is only 4 :scared1:

Try the miles + money although the miles we had only worked out to £40 discount.

But when they are older I would defnately consider flying indirect.

Unless you want to stay for the actual christmas time, how about going earlier? We're going next year, and we're going mid november as that's when the christmas decorations and MVMCP starts up. It's usually not as crowded and the flights might be a little cheaper.

Just so you know the decorations are not completed fully property wide until just before Thanksgiving and the Christmas tree in MK doesn't go up until after the parade filming which is usually the first weekend in December. It takes 4 weeks to decorate the parks, resorts and cruise ships :goodvibes

Thanks for the info but we have been going to WDW for 10 years now we have been in the summer, haloween & Christmas. This will be our 5 time going at Christmas but we have normally booked a lot earlier to go.

How old is your child? Are they tolerant of air travel? I ask because my daughter used to be terribly air sick (never on any other form of transport, strangely enough) and for us to do a short Atlantic journey with a break of a couple of hours, made the short hop down to MCO a lot easier on her, us and fellow passengers!! Yes, it was perhaps a bit more of a faff, but if she was happier, we all were.
