Travel to Britain in November?

Good day,

My family (me, DH and DD15) are considering a trip to England and Scotland in November. Is that just a stupid time to tour? We would be going over our Thanksgiving so DD15 won't miss so much school. I want to see London and DD15 wants Scotland (she isn't sure what she means by that). DH has been before and just wants to make his women happy.

Any help or direction any of you Dis-boarder friends from across the pond can offer would be appreciated greatly. Recommendations for everything gladly accepted.

Hi Sandi

Check out these 2 recent threads we've had recently that have covered some London questions which might be helpful. One of which even includes some info specifically about November.

London, inc November

General London

If you still have questions after reading those, fire away!

I can't help with Scotland though I'm sure someone else more familiar with it's charms can help. If your daughter isn't quite sure what she fancies, Edinburgh is a popular place to visit and has good transport options :)

Hope that helps!

To be honest our weather can be bad all year round, so as long as you bring a warm, waterproof coat then November is as good a time as any to visit.

I love the city in November once the Oxford Street lights are on but before it gets too crazy with people christmas shopping.

You might want to be here for Guy Fawkes nights (5th Nov) as they have really amazing fireworks on the river. (Is a bit far from Thanksgiving though)

My family is scottish but embarrasingly I've not been much. Edinburgh does looks wonderful though.

If you have any questions on London/Kent/Surrey though please ask away.

Thank you very much. I had found one of the threads, but not the one that specifically refers to November. I appreciate the help from both of you and will likely be back with more questions.

Hmmm, November in Central Scotland has tended to be particularly wet. I can't help too much with Edinburgh. It goes down well normally, but it is too touristy for me compared to its larger cousin, Glasgow. I've always found Spring to be the best time here - our better weather seems to be spring/early summer. :-(

I appreciate your thoughts. DH and I were just talking about that last night and are thinking we'll save Scotland for a summer trip. I still want to fly into London, but then maybe we'll head south for part of our November vacation.
