We will be traveling to Disney in Aug. however not before we stop in Washington for a week and Clearwater for a week (a total of 4 weeks all together) so needless to say we will have a lot of clothing with us. On top of everything we will be driving!!!!!! Just wanted to know if anyone has used this product. It clams you don't need a vacuum? I was wondering if it would be worth it to us to invest in these to free up as much space in the car for the kids as well as ourselves! Thanks in advance

We use the ones by Pack Mate and they work really well. I always travel with my pillow and after the air is rolled out of the bag, the pillow is maybe a 1/2" thick.

I love these! They are wonderful. Our first time using them, we used the travel version. They did not need a vaccum - you just rolled them and the air pushed out the end that you do not zip shut. The second time, I we needed more, adn wal-mart was out of them so DH decided to get the regular big version (!!!) that you can either push out the air or vaccum it out. These still worked well, but I will def use the travel size next time. I recommend them!:thumbsup2

I always have one in my suitcase when I travel! I find they work wonders when I am heading home because you can smoosh up all those dirty clothes! They really help with space. My suggestion is after you roll the air out, sit on them!:goodvibes This helps to get the excess air out. I think they are worth the cost!

I agree. I use the travel versions that you roll out the air and besides freeing up space it provides an air tight location for your dirty clothes.

As an add on question for those who use these bags (OP: hope you don't mind me posting here with a question), do your fresh clothes come out very wrinkled? I wouldn't care about laundry, but I'm not overly interested in having to iron everything once we get to our resort.

Yeah, they do come out kinda wrinkly. But I just wore them and the wrinkles come out pretty quickly (we packed t-shirts and shorts). But, this is coming from a person who NEVER irons anything...so my opinion might be biased. :rotfl:

Coming from someone who irons everything - yes they come out pretty wrinkly, but I iron every morning anyway so it's not a big deal to me.

I'm on a quest to find a small bottle of Downy Wrinkle Release beacuse I use them too!

I iron all the time too -- my friends make fun of me b/c I even iron t-shirts. I'll probably have to iron all our clothes again anyway even if I don't use the travel bags, so I may invest in some and just put simple to iron things in them. We're traveling by car and have a small car so space is an issue for us (not to mention the vast wardrobe I have to take for dd and the extra clothes we'll have to pack since the weather in Dec is so unpredictable).

Thanks for your reply (and also thanks to the other poster who replied who doesn't iron :))

Just save a small spray bottle from something else (like a hair care product/I save old small spritzer bottles of hair detangler that I use on dd) and fill that with Downy Wrinkle Release. But thanks for mentioning that -- I've now added it to my packing list! Spritz your clothes and then hang them in the bathroom when you shower and that will hopefully minimize ironing. I always iron, but on vacation I can certainly think of better things to do than iron.

What's an iron?:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
I use large heavy duty ziploc bags, but I'm thinking of getting these. Love the pillow idea as I always take mine!

Never do iron.

Try this. These tips came from a stewardess and a consultant who traveled extensively.

Turn each item of clothing inside out and then fold in half longways, then roll it tightly before putting into those bags. Many rolls go into one bag. No flat folding!! Important to turn garment inside out because when righting the item to unpack any possible wrinkling will not appear outward on the garment. Sounds crazy but I do this even with suit jackets and they look great once hung out on arrival.

:laundy: we also turn all clothing inside out before tossing in washer. Less wear on the outer fabric which everyone will see.

We've been using them for years. They are great but after you pack and find out you have extra room, watch that you don't pack more and go over weight. First time I used them, wife was watching, I laid out everything I always pack and stuffed my bags and saw the extra space left and figured I forgot needed items and unpacked the whole deal, nope, I had it all, them space bags save room. Well, next trip wife wanted some too, we never travel without them. I don't roll the air out, I roll the zipped end a couple of times and then place the bag against the side of the bed and press the air out with my legs, keeps them flat and very little wrinkles. No matter what, we never iron on vacation, never, and our stays range 9-12 nights and we never do laundry either, vacation no-no's.

I've used Space Bags since about 2000 and they are great. BUT I find myself replacing them about every couple of trips because they start letting air in. This last trip (a cruise) we used the type that you can either roll out or vacuum. I was concerned about not being able to vacuum them out on the cruise (I think you get so much more air out when you vacuum vs. rolling). The room steward let us use the cruise one. Anyway, my brilliant husband says why do we always worry about vacuums, all we need to do is go to a gas station and use theirs....If you're staying onsite and don't have a car, that could be an issue but sounds like the OP would be driving. Good luck and have fun!!

In addition to the space bags, I have also used the bags that blankets/comforters come in. The ones I use have zippers at the top so it's a little easier to get the air out & the bag closed. I've used quart size freezer baggies for small items like underwear, bras, and socks.

Great idea! I always roll my clothing, but I never thought to turn it inside out. I'll definitely be trying that.

Would security at the airport ever open them and then not roll them back up?

Since the bags are clear they are easier to see what's in them, and if its just rolled clothes they will be very benign going through the x-ray machines. Also since everything except my shoes are in a bag, should they want to open the suitcase and move things about, clothes do not get soiled or unrolled when the bags might be handled.

I'll definately be getting some of these. Who has the better price for them?...Walmart? Just wondering.

Might look at Bed Bath & Beyond as well with one of my 20% off coupons that come in the mail. Just a thought.

We used them on our last trip to WDW on our way home. We swam in the pm before leaving for MCO and I used the bags for our wet swimsuits. Worked great, even as we were delayed a night in Atlanta!:sad2:
