No I don't want help getting travel sick lol,
Was just wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for medications.
My youngest daughter is 10 and I swear she could get travel sick walking. For the last three years I've arrived in Orlando carrying a bag of boke, yep every time the poor child gets on a plane she throws up, and she even managed to do it on two different planes last year cause we went indirect.
I know I can get stuff at the chemist but have no idea what the best stuff is, has anyone experience of this sort of thing and could recommend a good product to use.

I used to be really bad and my mum had to give me medication to just go short journeys as a kid. Now I can't sit in the back for long journeys and if i do I have to sleep.

I never had a problem on flights until recently. I take the boots own brand tablets and find that they work really well. I think they have a childs version that you can buy. You take one 20mins before the flight and can then take more during.

I stick mostly to water and I don't really eat a lot before we fly or drive anywhere.

Thanks, never thought of boots own brand, was thinking Kwells or something along those lines.
Yeah she point blank refuses to eat anything on the plane, and will only have a light breakfast at the airport. We've brought stuff for her to eat in the past but part of it is nerves I think, she works herself into a state worrying about being sick and she ends up being sick. I feel really bad for her cause it's an awful feeling anytime, never mind on a plane with 300 strangers, once she gets there she is fine within 20 minutes though.

My dd gets travel sick I give her stugeron 15 my whole family use it after it was recommended by a pilot friend years ago hope you find something that works for your dd xx

Hi I use Dramamine for my dd which I have always found effective and diazepam for me but that's a whole different ball game :)

Sounds like my DD, also 10. I still get terribly car sick, even sitting in the front, yet have no issues on planes. My daughter on the other hand refuses to eat on the flight and really did herself proud 15 minutes after take off from EWR last year and managed to decorate the cabin quite impressively! :faint:

I have decided to try the magnetic bracelets this year. As per the above advice, I do pack snacks for her which I buy airside before we fly and make sure she sips water throughout the flight. Dehydration and low blood sugar are prime culprits for aggravating existing nausea so I try get her to snack on dry, low GI foods and keep herself hydrated with water and also buy boiled sweets for her for a bit of sugar.

Not really useful advice as the problem remains in need of a solution, but hopefully between us all we can get some potential remedies together to try.

When do you fly? We leave in 6 weeks so if we go before you do, I'm happy to report on the effectiveness of the wrist bands or anything else we try this time. I'm not expecting a complete cure, but hoping that it will make for a more pleasant flight.

I agree tinkerbells mum I have been a travel sickness sufferer all my life although it did seem a little better in my late teens and twenties, but as I have got older it has got really bad again - can't even get on a bus if I have not taken anything - Sturgeron 15 was recommended to DH at work, it is the best thing I have tried, although I took 2 on the way out 2 years ago and slept almost all the way to Miami - much to the amusement of my youngest DS. I will certainly be getting some for our up coming trip.

sounds like my DD...
i don't know what is available in the UK - from a very young age, DD took children's Dramamine before flying....it worked like a charm..

I have suffered with this all my life. I have to sit at a window to stop myself being sick. I then make sure that I eat regularly on the flight and then I am not sick.

Definitely think ginger would help and you can buy different forms at holland and barratt:thumbsup2

I've always used Traveleze Sickness Pastles for myself&DD's. They are really pleasant and are just like a strawberry jelly sweet, they've thankfully always worked for us:thumbsup2

I too have DS who is dreadfully travel sick and when I could find no remedy to solve the problem I went to the GP who gave him Stugeron and has never had a problem with this - and I am hoping when we go in August he will not have a problem then as being ill on an aircraft is not an enviable situation for anyone.
I hope you find something that works but I would recommend trying it out on a shorter journey even if only in a car first to make sure it suits. Good luck.

Just to let you know that I went to Boots today to get my Sturgeron15 for our trip, it was £2.99 for 15 tablets, but was on 3 for 2 - I only got only packet *** its only me that suffers but thought this might be of some help to someone

Thanks all, think we will give this sturgeon 15 a go, can honestly say I've never heard of it, so see I learned something in here today.
I'm sorted of tempted to give the bracelet a try too, not sure how it works or even if it's effective but I do think it could have a placebo effect on my DD, a lot of the problem with her is she gets herself worked up into a state cause she is petrified of being sick.

I suffer from travel sickness too and have done so since i was really young, sturgeon is a good one and does work, i now take boots own brand tried them when they were out of stock of sturgeon and they worked so i get them now every time i travel.

my GP put me on Betaserc (Serc) but to no avail. (anyway, it's supposed to take 9 to 12 months with that med to get rid of the travel sickness)

I've checked and Stugeron is also available over the counter in France, I might also give it a try, but I'll ask my GP as I see him thursday to make sure it doesn't interact with the other meds I'm on.

with all my luck i've been thrown all the way to back of the 757 we'll fly from PHL to MCO (one row from the very back). Still hoping to get closer to the front/wing section when online check in opens... (all other flights are over the wings)
But I'll definitely need something to help me.

It's usually OK, but when we hit slight turbulences, my face goes green, I start to sweat (cold), feeling dizzy, with heavy nausea. The only thing that keeps everything down  is to stare at a fixed point inside the plane. I usually use the "exit" signs hanging over the aisle, as far to the front as possible. It doesn't ease the symptoms, but focusing on a fixed point is the only thing keeping me from using that paper bag ...

Hope it works for the rides too ... anything more "violent" than it's a small world or Pirates has me a bit

On our last trip I was suffering from labryrinthitis a few weeks before. My GP prescribed stugeron tablets and they were great. I used them during the trip and had no problems at all.

DS was sick on the flight going over but I put his down to playing his DS and getting quite warm. I now limit the amount he spends looking down and make him strip down if I feel the plane getting a bit warm. As we have a cruise booked this time I will be buying them again.

I get trave sick very easily (can't ride for more than10 minutes on a bus before I feel sick) and I use travel bands (elastic band with a little bobble on them you wear on your wrist.) I know they might not work for some people, but tablets would not work well for me. My parents, who also get travel sick, use them too and have also never had a problem with them.

My son takes Stugeron for every flight. Before that, he was sick every single time we flew.

I "hide" it in some soft chocolate (like a caramel bar) and he is happy to take it that way.

Just a quick update, we arrived late last night.
So we went with the Stugeron 15 and backed it up with the elastic acupressure wristbands, a fiver in the chemist.
And for the first time in a long time DD was not sick, in fact she felt totally fine throughout both flights.
She even went as far as to eat something on the plane, that is unheard of.
So I don't know If it was the tablets or the wristbands or a combination of both, but I'd recommend giving them both a try.
Thank you all for the advice, you have no ideas how much a easier a puke free flight is on everyone but especially the wee one.
