Travel Insurance while Driving

Hi hopefully a quick a question about travel insurance. We are planning a 5 night Merry Time Christmas cruise followed by a 3 day stay at Caribbean Beach 12/18. We will be driving and I was wondering if anyone has experience with what insurance would cover while driving? Mostly concerned that the cost of the cruise be covered if our car broke down and we missed the cruise departure. Maybe some other problems I'm missing in regards to insurance. Thanks for your input.

When purchasing travel insurance you can specify when you want the coverage to start, and what kind of coverages you want. "Missing the ship" may or may not be covered, as each policy is different. It may cover if the ship is missed for one reason (cancelled flight) but not another (weather).

You'd have to include the dates you start driving from your home and planned return. With TI I have purchased in the past, if your car broke down and kept you from embarking, that would fall under Trip Interruption. You'd have to include all.expected costs with cruise and hotel stays when declaring the price of the vacation you want insured. You'd have to ensure cruises are included in what you are choosing and that trip interruption is also included. A lot of companies make comparing different policies on line pretty easy.

Just the way it was phrased made me wonder if they were renting a car during the cruise.

You would have to check your particular policy, and if you got the "cancel for any reason" coverage just in case.

Please check with your policy and ask that (any any other questions) before you purchase! I specifically thought of that question after I bought mine and they said no.

There are a lot of issues one would expect to be covered but unfortunately not every policy covers everything.
(For example, our luggage was lost AFTER we debarked the cruise. We had no clothes or toiletries for our drive home - left in warm weather and arrived back north to freezing temps with no clothes but shorts! Our policy only covered luggage lost upon embarkation. When it said delay or lost luggage covered, I never thought to check the fine print about the fine details about what that meant!).

We go directly to the travel insurer for trips like your's because of the complexity of coverages needed, not just the DCL leg.

Our travel insurance provider GENERALI (used to be CSA) has trip interruption coverages include car accidents en route to departure.

They offer different plans, so to be sure you get the right plan, either lookup their policies online or contact GENERALI .

I see how they could have been confused. When I first read it I thought they said they were going on a cruise and driving to a Carribean beach. And depending on what island in the Caribbean, could be a US island or a foreign island.

Yeah, I didn't make that jump because I've stayed at the Caribbean Beach resort at WDW.
