Hello,

I did a search, but most of the topics are old.

We are renting a townhouse for 2 weeks in Windsor Hills ($1770)- deposit was 20%, balance needs to be paid in full at the 60 day mark, with various ranges of refunds being given, but none if trip is cancelled within 14 days.

If I buy the disney park tickets via AAA, the tickets are nonrefundable ($862) and I am buying one AP ($462) and a DDE ($65).

I found trip insurance via travelguard - $129 covers our family, two of the kids are free with the promotion that they are running. We are going the end of June through July 7th.

Has anyone purchase trip insurance before and do you find it worthwhile or is it a waste of money?

TIA...

I'd rather not comment on the actual benefit of travel insurance, as that could be debated back and forth for all sorts of reasons and justifications.

I just wanted to point out that your MYW tickets and AP, though non refundable, would not expire unless they had been used. So there is no risk there as far as those costs. Exception being that if you had partly used (half way into the trip) and had to cancel the remainder of the trip due to serious illness or other unforeseen circumstance, then a PARTIAL refund might be issued under the policy...

Looks like the area of concern to me is simply the 14 day window prior to arrival. If something were to happen then, and you were unable to travel, you would lose your $1770!

Enjoy planning, and try not to worry to much no matter what you choose to do!

It's mostly a waste of money... at least you hope it is. But, it could be the best thing you do if your trip needs to be cancelled last minute or you need to leave once you've already arrived. If you purchase be sure your policy includes "trip interruption" also in case of serious sickness or injury while vacationing.

If you do a search of "Trip Insurance" on the Mousesavers.com site they have some very useful information there, including different types of add ons such as emergency medical, luggage delays, etc.

I never purchased it until last year. Nothing ever happened to me and my trips always went as scheduled. But since I've found the cost isn't very high, I feel it's worth the peace of mind so I have started purchasing it.

JMHO

We always purchase travel insurance and have used it having to cancel due to my DH falling ill. I have read where a mom had to have her gallbladder removed three days before their trip and didn't have insurance. Another story I heard was a child had to have their appendix out a week before their trip but did have insurance. You just never know when one could get sick or fall and break a leg, etc. For $129 I would definitely get it.

If I were going during hurricane season I would DEFINATLY get it. As Anc96 said, you hope it's a waste of money. If it happens(even that one time) you may have wished you had it. Just my humble and honest opinion. Have a great time no matter that you deside! :thumbsup2

(Make sure you know what you are covered for and not covered for with any company if you deside to get the travel insurance[not all of them cover hurricanes])

We went last September and we (BF and I) bought trip insurance just incase a hurricane was brewing in the gulf. We got it through American Express since I paid for most of the trip with my Amex. I think for our trip I estimated with Amex that we both wanted coverage for $900 each and it was only $28. I thought it was $28 well spent to ease our worries.

The way I understnad it through AAA, is if you dont have insuance and you have to cancel your trip within 14 days of arrival they will charge you around $200, the insurance runs around $120, so IMO i figured I would take the $80 chance and not get it. (Also i have reserved two rooms, so we weould have to double that.) My thinking is that i have aited this long to go, not much is going to stop me from going!!

I'd feel safer with the insurance especially during hurricane season.

We have changed our thoughts about insurance. During our last trip we got food poisoning. :sad2: Spent overnight in the hospital, a few days in our room and decided to cut our trip short. Ended up paying around $1000 out of pocket.

I just bought a policy for our next trip. Cost $180. Includes medical, medical transfer to home, airline charges, and baggage coverage.

After spending a few thousand on vacation, $180 for piece of mind doesn't seem like much.

I was just thinking that in all the reading I have done on this site, I hadn't really seen anything mentioned about insurance and was going to ask. We always get it for our cruises (non on Disney yet). I can't remember if I got any last year, but I must have.

Everyone is right, you just don't know what is going to happen. DM got sick the week before our cruise a couple of years ago, luckily she was better so we were able to go.

Going to check out Amex to see what they have. Thanks everyone!

I ruptured a disc 2 days into my 2003 visit to WDW. I was very glad we had the insurance because we were refunded for the portions of the trip we could not enjoy.
