Travel Insurance Question

Hello.

I'm assuming that since everything is fully refundable up until the final payment is due, there is no need to add travel insurance until that point, correct? Does any know if the insurance goes up when you buy closer to the travel date?

Thanks!

I've got a question, I am seriously thinking about getting trip insurance for our next trip for my hotel rate and our ticket prices, since both will be a good amount.

I do know that I will need to get it within the first two weeks of making the deposit on my room only for the pre-exsisting condition thing to apply, which I would. But I got my tickets last year, would they be covered as well with the pre-exsisting condition clause or not?

Your tickets can be used at any time and will never expire or lose value.

And therefore shouldn't be added to insurance.

If there are pre-existing conditions that you need to take into account, contact the insurance company and find out when you need to add the insurance to have that waiver.

Traveling from Canada and in August hurricane season there are 2 things I always get.
1-Medical Insurance. For me it wasn't much more to add pre existing so I add it. To be on safe side.

2-Trip interruption - so in case there's a storm and airport is closed/flights cancelled, and I can't get home, my extra day(s) hotel & meal is covered, and flight home.

When Sandy hit, I was at POR, and couldn't help overhearing people's conversations about them trying to leave but flights were canceled and trying to extend their stay. And about people trying to arrive to join family already there. What a mess.

Flight interruption is a must for me. As is medical. My last trip I poked myself in the eye with mascara wand :sad2: ended up with corneal abrasion and infection.

Well when referring to the tickets, I am thinking what would happen if, heaven forbid, we got down there and used just 1 or 2 days worth of them and then suddenly had to go home. That's what I fear.

I really am clueless about what the pre-exsisting conditions apply to. My family has just one that really is a non-issue, but I do have aging parents.

I'm researching the pre-existing conditions waiver as well. I was pricing Travelguard and it states that it will be valid if you purchase the insurance within 15 days of "Initial Trip Payment". I'm not sure what that really means, whether it's a fully refundable deposit or at the point where our payments become not refundable...I am inquiring and will report back.

I just confirmed with Travelguard that the initial trip payment is at the point of the first deposit. I presume all other insurances are the same. So in this case, you should not wait until just before the final payment is due for the waiver to be valid.
