Travel Insurance prices

Hi, now we are into the new year I really need to get a move on with the plans for our trip. The first job on the list is to get our travel insurance sorted. There are 5 of us - 2 adults and 3 children aged 7 - 42. We have no health problems etc and are travelling from 12th-31st August. I have been getting a few quotes and prices seem to vary wildly. What do you think would be a reasonable price to pay and does anybody have any companies they could recommend?

Hi there, we are 2 adults and 3 kids, travelling in August too! Check your bank account as insurance is often included. I have upgraded my Nationwide account (pay £10 per month) and that includes worldwide travel insurance for all of us, all mobile phones insured and breakdown recovery. The cover is £5k per insured person.

You need to check medical cover for US travel. I would suggest minimum of $5m but preferably $10m

I can't help with price as DH gets us annual travel insurance as its one of his benefits.

The cover I have is: cancellation £5000, missed departure £1000, delay for 4+hrs £1000, medical expenses £10 million, delayed baggage after 12hrs £250, personal money or key travel documents £500. This covers your family, including dependent children living at the same address.

Thanks. I've checked and I could also upgrade my bank account for £11.50 per month to get limited use of an airport lounge, RAC European breakdown cover and worldwide travel insurance. The insurance is very similar to yours joolz1910 apart from it is only £3000 for cancellation and £250 for delayed baggage. The cancellation would be fine as across the 5 of us it would more than cover all our costs. The problem at the moment is that the terms and conditions don't make it clear whether as joint account holders both of us would be covered by the rac or not and I can't get through to the helpline at the moment to check.

Have got some quotes just for insurance from a few companies and it seems the insurance alone will cost us £150-£200 so bank account seems like quite a good deal

Perhaps do a dummy upgrade? When I upgraded online, it asked if we were both eligible for breakdown cover. It also asked about pre-existing medical conditions. I have two and it said that I would be covered (but not for them) and that if I wanted to be covered for them, I could phone up and add them to the policy.
