I have no insurance right now (and won't when I travel to WDW in April). I have never had to buy travel insurance before so I'm really pretty clueless about the whole thing. I've looked at Blue Cross and I got an online quote for 2 people (me and my 5 year old) for $120 (we'll be in the states for 16 days). Is this a good rate? Any other places I could check out?

TIA!

Please don't ever travel outside of Canada without emergency medical insurance.....I learned the hard way. My DH has travel insurance thru his work benefits and we still buy an additional policy just to be safe.

CAA has excellent rates even for non-members. You can also check with the banks... I know RBC and CIBC have insurance. PC financial also offers travel policies now.

The $120 you have been quoted doesn't sound that bad but I think CAA can beat that. I have paid around $60 for a family of 4 with 9 days coverage (that was as a non-member). You can get a quote over the phone.

Ditto the above Post!
I too learned the hard way...DH passed out on a Disney Bus...11 hrs in the Hosp = $17,000!
NO insurance
Don't do it!
Now, I am the MOST overinsured travelling the face of this planet! LOL..

I agree don't travel with out insurance and i also agree with Caa we went in march we stayed in the us for 17 days i think it cost us 115.00 for a family of 5 so id say give caa a call.

I was just reviewing PC Financial's travel medical insurance. I haven't purchased insurance online before but their rates look pretty good and am considering it. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about them?

My Mom used PC last year, and they were awesome to deal with, as we had to cancel her trip.

Oh no worries, I am definitely going to be getting insurance! I am a huge worry wart and I can't imagine going without insurance. Especially since we are driving down from NB! Too many things can happen!

Thanks for the advice.. I'll check out CAA!

I have my home and car policies with PC. I've never had to make a claim but when I have dealt with them to make changes to my policies they have been very thorough. I always find them to be exceptionally polite and they will check to make sure that all possible discounts have been applied. The only negative is that the call centre is in India and some of the agents are hard to understand.

I would most likely choose PC if CAA was not an option for me.

Hi Julie!:flower3:

The only negative thing about PC insurance is that if you have some other type of group insurance through work etc they will make you use that BEFORE your PC insurance kicks in.:scared1:

Example.....DH is covered through work for $70,000.00 lifetime which would also has to cover medication, dental etc.(don't want to touch that) so we always purchase CAA's out of province insurance as it kicks in no matter what other insurances you have.I hope you understand what I'm trying to say! lol:rotfl:

I've actually had to use the CAA's insurance in Florida and all went very smoothly. Since we travel quite a lot now we just get the insurance for the whole year.:thumbsup2

I just bought 10 days of CAA (member) insurance for a family of 4 for $54.00 Cdn all in. Priced out TD and CIBC and they were 15 dollars more for less coverage.

The other thing you should look at is how the insurance pays. CAA is up front while a lot of others are you pay and get reimbursed.

If you are driving down you might even look at joining CAA for a basic membership. There are savings to be had on hotels and other things and the peace of mind for the automobile coverage is great.

We have our car insured with PC and have had no problems but the communication can be difficult with some of their phone representatives.

Minnie56 - $17,000 for less than a day ???? How the heck do you get that high a bill in under 24 hours without surgery. Life flight to the hospital? I would imagine they went in to a full heart attack routine but that is still a staggering bill. Did you get an itemized print out with the legendary 15 dollar cotton balls and 10 dollar surgical tape? I had heard it was bad but that blows me away.

We are pricing insurance out for our December trip still. We usually go with RBC. Went to AMA last night and I could not find trip cancellation/interruption insurance on their website. Does CAA offer it?
