Anyone give any advice on travel insurance companies that will offer coverage for pre existing conditions for trips that the 1st payment date was like 6 months ago?

My family doesn't really need this but I do have elderly parents, in-laws and such who have health related issues.

CSA has policies that offers coverage for pre-existing conditions as long as you purchase by the time you make your final payment. The most cost effective option is sold through the tripinsurancestore.com.

If you booked through Costco, there is an even less expensive policy available through them.

Finally, not all policies apply the same definition of PEC to non-travelling family members. If you really don't need it for anyone travelling, then it might be worth a call to one of the big agencies (tripinsurancestore.com or insuremytrip) to discuss your options. -- Suzanne

The only time we purchased trip ins, it had to be purchased within a very small window of the original booking date. One of our sons has a congenital renal issue that can result in a major UTI and the need for hospitalization and iv drugs. We had to send documentation from our dr to the company and have him pre-approved, which took about 3 wks. He was approved for the ins or we would have cancelled the trip (overseas to a 3rd world country).

I doubt you can get ins at this late date. Every time I've seen it offered, it has to be done very quickly during the booking period to keep people from getting it only when it looked like their trip might need to be cancelled.

If you belong to AAA, they offer a non trip specific product. That might be your best bet (and check that your AAA offers it before you decide to join just to get the ins).

We used Travel Insured International for our last trip because our youngest has a congenital heart defect. We had to book the insurance within 21 days to have the pre-existing condition covered. Fortunately, we didn't have any issues crop up. I'm sure one of the PP is correct - they won't cover the pre-existing conditions if booked right before you travel because some people would book only because something has come up.

check insuremytrip.com
i know i saw at least one company that will sell you insurance that is closer to the time of your trip(with preexisting coverage) , but it was pretty pricey, several hundred more than if you bought it right away. & there are others that only sell it it within so many months of your trip (under 6 months or so)
just put in your info & up will pop many companies, just look through each one.
good luck.

If you buy insurance through your tour operator, cruise line and sometimes TA pre-existing conditions might be waived if you purchase no later then time of your final payment.

Otherwise check places like insuremytrip. Many require purchase within a few weeks of your initial deposit. Some will let you wait until final payment.

Check the numbers. Can you cancel and rebook? How much would you lose?

Check your personal health insurance. Do you have coverage where you're traveling. Does it include medical evacuation. Cost of getting you home via air ambulance or whatever is necessary? If so you might go with one of the less expensive policies.
