Hi, just wanted to know if everyone gets cover, to cover the ash cloud that was such a pain, regarding companies not paying out.

I need to get cover for a pre existing medical condition for one of the lads, so that usually bumps the price up and was thinking seeing as we fly with virgin, we would be offered another flight or refund, we could ammend date at disney for an admin fee and just cancel last hotel, losing 20%,

So is there something else im not thinking about, if I dont get this extra cover?
We go end of October this year.
Our work would be pretty flexible about dates too, thanks for any advice given:)

Following suggestion by others I explored add on to current account with bank.
This worked out cheaper and covers travel disruption e.g. volcanic ash and my daughter who has a pre-existing medical condition.
Bonus is that I will not need to renew AA breakdown cover as this is also included.

We got stuck in the ash cloud for 10 days. As we flew with an American carrier, we got no assistance with hotels, food etc. Our insurance company wouldn't cover it.

We don't buy the extended cover.

I recently got extra ash cloud cover through the AA. If they would pay out or not is another matter (after reading 2010 stories). I do know though as soon as the other Icelandic volcano (Katla)starts to show signs of blowing then the cover will no longer be offered. Apparently they have been having minor earth tremors in that area the past few months.

I got stuck for 3 extra days with the ash cloud, cost me about £1,000 with loss of wages, extra car hire, hotels, food etc. Insure & Go would not pay out anything.
The first year after it I took out extra cover. After that I thought about it logically, what are the chances of it happening again? I have done over 100 holidays abroad and never had a problem before or since, if we did have another problem what are the chances of it falling on my dates?
Taking all this into account I deceided its not worth paying extra for, its almost certainly never going to affect another holiday for me(watch this space:rotfl2:)

They were our insurer back in 2010. I rang them 2-3 times during the course of our 10 day delay, to check our medical coverage had been extended and to ask about cover for travel delay. They told me on each occasion that they would cover us - not much, but it would have been about £400. When we got home, they changed their mind - we were covered for nothing.

I didn't expect to be covered, actually - but the only thing worse than finding out you're not covered, is being told you are - only to be told two weeks later that you're not.
