How do you define “Pre-existing” conditions when asked regarding the travel insurance? At 69 year young, I have had many serious problems but all are currently under control using medications and a pacemaker. Although medications are doing the job now, those problems are being monitored and still may result in altering travel plans. I am thinking of purchasing the travel insurance for our upcoming ’09 trip but what do I tell the agent when asked if I have any “pre-existing” medical problems? I can't say I am in "A1" condition although I continue to look at the positive side of it all.

I believe it is any condition that you has occurred within the last 45 days. You do not have to give a complete health history, but if you have been hospitalized or treated for an illness/injury recently, that would be a pre-existing condition.

Maintenance drugs would not count if you do not have any immedite health issues.

Is that to mean that if I applied for the Travel Insurance 45 days after being told of I had “XYZ” and “we will monitor it”, I would be in the right by not mentioning it when applying for the insurance? On the other hand are you are saying “if you have been hospitalized or treated for an illness/injury recently, that would be a pre-existing condition.”… meaning it would have to be reported no matter how longer ago it occurred?

I believe that for the purposes of travel insurance, a 'pre-existing condition'
would be defined as a condition which has had an intial on set within that 45 day period. As an example, I know of an instance in which the guest had a cardiac history (including a pacemaker installed). While visiting WDW the guest had a 'hicup' in the device, was treated at Celebration Hospital and the travel insurance covered it.

Policies do vary, so make sure to read the definitions. I also know that some companys ( Travel guard ) offer plans with a pre-existing condition wavier.

HTH

Some companies waive the pre-existing clause if you purchase the insurance within so many days of your initial reservation. My mom had cancer and I looked for insurance that had that waiver. I actually had to use it when she died after I bought airline tickets.

Is anyone referring to the AIG “Travel Protection Plan” which is included with the Disney reservation confirmation letter?

No, I haven't used that. In my case, I just insured the airline tickets. I used Travel Insured.

Yes.

Seeing the current financial status of IGA, would you buy the travel insurance thru them?

I thought IGA sold 8 0'clock coffee and canned goods!

;)

Personally I wouldn't fret about that too much. Just take into account the timing and exposure of your travel. You can certainly find another company for travel insurance -- they all pretty much work the same inre "pre-X" issues.
