Travel Insurance after PIF?

I didn’t book DCL’s travel insurance for our next cruise, intending to look into more comprehensive options with a separate travel insurance company. Except... we never did that. Our PIF date was earlier this month, and we’re sailing in a couple of months. Already booked flights and pre-cruise hotel. We’ve got no pre-existing conditions to worry about, I’m more concerned with accidents or weather delays. I’m totally overwhelmed by the list of companies/options/plans to choose from at this point. Does anyone have suggestions for a plan that will cover us if something unexpected occurs, or have we just waited too long?

I booked a cruise a couple of weeks ago that was already past the PIF date. I was able to get my insurance through Costco since I had booked through them (it was way cheaper than other options I looked into). I think you can buy it up to the day you sail, I don’t think the PIF date matters.

It's not too late, as long as what you would be using the insurance for is still completely unexpected as of the day you buy the insurance (i.e. hurricane not named yet). On Insure My Trip, you can pick plans to compare side by side. For cruises, I tend to focus on the amount of medical evacuation coverage and the missed connection coverage (how many hours delay is required, how much is covered, and details in the fine print). If your regular medical insurance doesn't cover you while on the cruise, the amount of that insurance would be important too.

Once you have it narrowed down, read through the policy is make sure it covers you for the things you're worried about.

If it's past the PiF date some policies will have different rules about pre-existing conditions. Check those carefully if that is something that might matter to you.
