We will be bringing our In-Laws for their first ever trip in January.

Since we travel frequently we take advantage of the annual travel / Medical Coverage through my Mastercard $99 for the year can't beat it.

But seeing how this is my in-laws only trip they will be probably taking for awhile it is not economical for them to pay the annual fee for the coverage through their credit card. I am not sure if its even an option on their card as well

What does everyone else do for their insurance. I need to make some suggestions...they are mid 50's. Trip / Medical insurance....

Thanks so much for your helping advance.

We always book thru CAA. We are members & for the 3 of us for just emergency was $43 (me, DH & 3 y/o son). Obviously your situation is different. There is a medical declaration for over 55 I believe, pre-existing conditions has to be at least stable for 3 months prior, etc. Very easy to get.

Have you paid in full yet? Disney offers travel insurance as well but it has to be purchased within 24 hours of full payment. My dad had to have a pacemaker put in 2 weeks ago & we had to cancel his portion of the trip because I can't get insurance for him now. When I called Disney to cancel his reservation they explained their insurance to me, but because we had paid in full we didn't qualify, but they cover pre-existing conditions (not sure if that applies to you)

We are a family of 6, driving to Orlando next month. Last month, I got a quote for emergency medical coverage from Blue Cross and was given a quote of $128.00 for the 14 day trip. Since then, my DH bought us a CAA membership (thought it would be handy because we are driving), and today I called about Emergency Medical Coverage for our whole family and was given a quote of $76.44!!!!! WOW, there are many more benefits to having a CAA membership!

It's included in my banking package (It's a Visa infinate avion. Normally $120/yr). It covers spouse and children under the age of 21 for an unlimited amount of trips (under 15 days each I believe).

My wife is heading down next week without me and even though I'm the primary card holder she's still covered, and the kids would be too (if they were going!).

I have this one

and this one

*No yearly fee..included in my account package

I also have this attached to my homeowners Insurance for all 4 of us..$82 per year

With the CC plans..there are age restrictions. I 'think' RBC is a little more leniant..but still have trip duration limitations. I sadly--have the books here but do I ever read them??:sad2:

DH had an accident at WDW a few years back--I didn't take any addt'l medical coverage and the bill was:scared1::scared1::scared1:
I am now the MOST over-insured person you will ever come across!!!

Don't leave home without it!!

I think they still have thier CAA Membership. I will check with them.
I know we have the Travel coverage. Trip cancelation / inturuption /loss baggage / medical added to my BMO mastercard for $99 for my family and it covers unlimited trips through out the year. Your trip has to be booked on your card which isnt an issue. but you still can't beat the price.

Does the $76.44 cover trip cancellation/inturuption or stricting medical??? since we are going in January we need the travel coverage incase we get hit with a snow storm.

You have to remember that if htey are over 55, it will be a different price because of their age.

RBC Visa gold covers out of province medical under age 65 (30 days). Don't have to book the trip on your card. It has trip cancellation and interuption also plus flight delay but you have to pay for the trip on this card.
Infinite avion has 15 days our of province under 65 3 day 65 and over. It only convers trip interuption and has flight delay too

I get mine through my travel agent. I belive it is with RBC and I get the deluxe package as I take my niece. It's suppose to cover us the moment we leave our city until we return. It is also suppose to fly a family member down to Orlando if either one of us is in the hospital.

If their cc does not provide insurance for their trip, check out insuremytrip.ca
to see various types of travel insurance and rates.

It's strictly emergency medical coverage I took out. We already have trip cancellation/interuption coverage through Disney Cruise Line.

wow.....that seems kind of steep!
Maybe I will see if they have a BMO Mastercard.
We pay $99 for an Annual travel policy for our whole family.
That includes Medical , and all the rest of the Travel insurance....ie: Trip cancelation , interruption , lost luggage....etc.
Since we travel a few times per year it is perfect for us. It covers unlimited trip under 31 days in length through out the year!
Maybe even if they only go on 1 trip it may be their best option.
Thanks for your post.

Remember that the quote is for a family of 6.

You can also get insurance from CAA without a membership but it will cost a little more. I have had the misfortune of needing a hospital stay while on vacation so since then I have checked out all the insurance. I found CAA to be excellent for coverage and price. That is only for emergency medical though. I never buy cancellation coverage.

I never buy cancellation either, just medical. We actually had to cancel my parents portion of the trip & ended up getting all our $$$ back without cancellation insurance. Disney was awesome. They said if we had purchased it, it would have cost more because of deductables & the cost of the insurance. We did have a medical emergency & my dad can't go with us.
