I booked with Costco today and need to know where to get travel ins. as they said they don't sell it with hurricane ins. included, just medical reasons. How long do i have from the time I booked to buy ins? Thanks for the info.

I purchased ours through www.accessamerica.com

They do cover weather related cancellations, but there is a list of exclusions attached to it as well. For example, If you were to have purchased the insurance for a cruise set to sail next week, they would not cover a hurricane cancellation, because there is a known "threat", Ivan.

We booked way back in late 2003/early 04, but we just bought our insurance late August.....thank god we got it before these three buggers started up!

We have Travel Insured International this time around and it's the first time we are going to have to use it. I will let you know how it is but so far, lots of paperwork, lots of questions and people with few answers - so your guess at where to get it has been as good as mine!

I'm interested to know how those of you with insurance are making out with these hurricanes ....

go to insuremytrip.com and compare. we are going to use TravelEx.

This will be our 3rd time using Access America....we only booked the cruise on 8/30/04 (cruising 9/24) and I purchased the insurance within seven days.....that is required to cover pre existing medical conditions....didn't know that about them not covering for hurricanes if you bought insurance recently....hmmm.

Here's that portion from the trip insurance benefits....

"The benefits do not cover conditions or events that, on the date of purchase, are either known to You or likely to occur."

But then you start to think, well, are hurricanes "likely" to occur? Will they cover them? I would have to assume 3 major hurricanes in a row are not "likely" considering the news said this hasn't happened since the 60's. (Assuming is bad, though!) But I would take that clearly as, if you know Ivan is out there for your cruise next week and you just decided to get trip insurance today for it, it wouldn't cover cancellation of your cruise.

MJ- I'm guessing you're fine, especially since you purchased 7 days after your initial down payment, but on my selfish note, I REALLY WANTED KEY WEST KONCH FRITTERS! wahhh.

This is under the trip cancellation and iterruption protection:

"4. Strikes, natural disasters or bad weather resulting in the complete cessation of services by the airline, tour operator or cruise line for at least 24 consecutive hours."

I am still debating on purchasing insurance...has anyone out there NOT purchased insurance? My medical insurance covers me out of the US...we're flying into Orlando a few days before our cruise so we won't miss any flights...if there is a death in the family...I believe the cruise line would refund under that circumstance...Do you REALLY need the insurance...Comments welcome! Thanks...

Shana, I'm not buying trip insurance.
My health insurance also covers out-of-the-country emergencies, so I don't need insurance for that.
As for cancellations, DCL has a refund policy according to how many days before departure you have to cancel.
If at the last minute something comes up, we'll deal with it. If it's a hurricane...well, we all know how that worked out, and it wasn't too shabby on Disney's part!

I don't know about hurricane coverage, but I would expect the insurance to apply if you are unable to get to the ship due to airline cancellations. If the airport is closed or the flights are not flying and you purchased insurance, I would expect it to cover.

For example, I got stuck in the Atl airport a couple of years ago during the security mess. This one guy basically shut down the airport because he jumped the security line. DCL had to hold the ship for us, but if we had missed, the insurance would have covered.
