Well the morning as I read some interesting TRs and thought about how I am looking forward to my trip...an idea came to me :surfweb: :surfweb:

As you can see from my ticker, we plan(ned?) to go in July of next year. I am working on my MEd and have tried to stay on a plan so that I can apply for 6 months Ed leave to finish off. (sorry if this is jargon to you) IF we go in July, my plan gets kinda screwed up. So...I started looking at August. :rolleyes1 Now I am thinking maybe go in value season (August 6-16 of next year), stay on the "ed plan" and spend 4 nights at AKL instead of 2. DH wonders about hurricane season and all the practical stuff (like his getting time off work) HELP!
Need some advice on travelling in August!

I keep finding typos so I constantly need to edit (must be the teacher in me).

:teacher: I am a teacher too so I understand the jargon. Now we went last year in Aug and are going again in two weeks. There are some advantages to going in Aug such as the crowds are a thinner than in July as a number of states in the US have students go back to school, plus the last few years free dining has been offered and it is rumoured it will be again next Aug (this is one of the main reasons we are going again).

:sunny: Now Aug is very HOT :furious: and the sun can be nasty but it can be managed with some good planning like going to the parks early to avoid the heat (& go back to your room or the pool for a break in the pm) and/or choosing air conditioned attractions to be in. It is important to drink lots of water and bring cool washcloths and those fan misters to help stay cool.

We were down during Hurricane Katrina and did not get affected. I think Orlando is far enough away from the ocean that it is ok plus I think Disney is very prepared. The only thing is Hurricane or not every afternoon there is a thundershower but most of the time they only last 10-15 min and help cool things off a little.

I have subscribed to the tourguidemike.com website for all of my trips and it provides you with amazing tips of how not wait in the long hot lines, plus best days to go to different parks and TONS of other useful info and it is updated daily unlike the guidebooks. We used it last year (and are again for this trip) and we never waited more than 10 minutes in line even though some rides had 90min wait times posted. I am not allowed to get into more details as per the user agreement but I think it was the best $20 I spent. The website is a little overwhelming at first but you have plenty of time to use it. I found out about it a month before our trip last Aug and it was well worth the time I put into it.

Happy Planning!! :wave2:

Hmmm...maybe you and I could convince Splashmom to pick us both up on her way through :moped: , and we could just "check things out" *this* August!

Then we could really make an informed decision about August trips;);)

We were really thinking about a trip this year for August (DH couldn't get the time off, though). Driving, snow free, to BGR, MHT, and free dining is just tooo tempting:)

Anyway, having been there in September - hot doesn't even begin to describe the all-encompassing humidity - we would go again. Like shaycamp said, the weather thing is always a concern, mostly for flights. Staying on property would be a must. If native Floridians leave their homes and head for a WDW Resort during a hurricane, that's enough of a recommendation for us!

And our touring plans wouldn't change much from what they are in January. Early mornings, and all afternoon in the pool. I think we would take advantage of a few more evenings in the parks though.

And more nights at AKL can only be a good thing!! :goodvibes

I knew I could count on you mbb!! The die is cast and the counter is reset. Now I just have to wait on those darn package prices! :hourglass popcorn::

Mbb, if your really quick, you can jump in as we cruise by in only 8 days!!! :cool1: I am apprehensive about the August timeframe as well but we can stay for two weeks (plus a week of driving), which will hopefully give us enough time to take things slow. We can't manage that amount of time any other time of year. I am hoping that good planning will allow us to really enjoy things despite the heat and humidity. I'll let you know when I return!! :teeth:

All you have to do is slow down as you roll by Timmie's in St. Peter's - have the van door open!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

We'll grab pooksma in Freddy Beach on the way to the border.. :moped:

No room in the van?? That's okay - picture the aunt in "Vacation" on the top of the car in the lawn chair - we'll hold a Canadian flag even :teeth: :teeth:

How sad is it that I'm actually grinning at the thought of *that* picture!!

I need to go to Disney.
Not having a trip booked - yet;) - is an awful feeling!

Only 12 more months to go, pooksma!!! :smooth:

:sunny:

Heading to PEI for a week-sorry i guess I'll have to give up my seat on the roof. :rotfl: :lmao:
