This has probably already been asked, but does EVERYONE have to have some type of I.D. card to get on a flight? will a school I.D. work or do they need a state I.D.? thanks! Helen

IDs are required for all passengers 18 and older. School ID will not suffice.

No ID is required for those under 18.

Even though ID is not required for those under 18, both of my daughters were asked for ID last week, both on the way to Orlando and on the way back. My oldest has her high school ID and they had her show that but my younger daughter is in Middle School so she has no ID. They let her through without it since we explained that she doesn't have any ID. Even though ID may not be required for teens, they may ask for it.

My 11 and 12 yo sons were asked for ID, which of course we did not have. It was not a big deal and they were allowed to fly with no problem but they were asked.

Even without ID- Keep the kids near you they will want to see them, maybe speak to them.
With 4 kids we usually have the older ones wait out of the line (in sight but out of line.) We were required to have them come over to the counter and tell their names and ages to the ticket agent. I had the feeling if they had not been in sight we would have had a big problem.

Hmmmm....I think that I will just take them to the DMV and get them all State I.D. Cards! It can't be that hard to do...I guess a birth certificate is needed and I feel better if everyone has one anyway for their own safety.
Thank you all for the information! I certainly do appreciate it. Helen

Hi...not sure about CA rules but many DMV's are required to see Social Security Cards in addition to the Birth Certificate to issue anything these days...even for minors. My daughter has a NY Non-Driver ID and it works well when we travel.

:thumbsup2 we took dd for a state id at the DMV before our last trip....it doesn't expire for a long time, and we felt better with her having some offical id.!
