Travel from Vancouver airport to the port

Uber is not currently available in Vancouver. A taxi to the port area (right downtown) will be $35CAD, before any tips. The most "cost effective" way for a family of 3 or less would be to take the Canada line (Skytrain) from the airport which more or less drops you off right at the port. Skytrain is cost effective but there is an upcharge from the airport, which means that family of 4 or more will pay roughly the same charge as taking a taxi. Now, if you are staying at an airport hotel near/close to the Canada line and departing from a station other than the airport, the upcharge would not apply

We drove from home to Vancouver last year for our DCL Alaska cruise. Took son/family to the airport when done. It wasn't more than 45 minutes from the dock to the airport, just to give you an idea of time in transit involved. If you still need a hotel, we stayed in the Fairmont, just across the street from the terminal...easy, peasy the next day. Also, there can be three cruise ships/lines boarding at the same time in the terminal so be sure you are checking in with the Mouse or you won't see many princesses or Pluto on your cruise. This is one cruise I would love to do again...great fun. Weather can be sun, clouds, rain, repeat. Waterproof camera, binoculars and light poncho (over sweatshirts) should do it. Have fun!!!!

We usually rent a car since we arrive a day or two before our cruise. There is a car rental place close to the cruise terminal so it's convenient to pick up at Vancouver airport and drop off in Vancouver. It's quite easy to return since we usually stay at the Pan Pacific, Fairmont Waterfront or Fairmont Pacific Rim...all within walking distance from the port and car rental.

But since you're staying at the airport, I would go with a taxi.

I've never taken a Disney transfer from the airport so I don't know about it.

If you purchase the SkyTrain tickets in the 7/11 in the domestic terminal, there's no airport upcharge. Day passes cost around $10.00 each. Or a one zone ticket is $2.95 each.

I could be wrong on this but I thought that retailers such as 7/11 had stopped selling single use tickets. The system does now allow you to use your credit card to pay (tap it at the turnstile) but that would definitely charge you the $5 AddFare if you're leaving directly from the airport. Each station also has a vending machine for tickets. On weekdays until 6:30 pm you will pay for two zones to travel from Richmond to Vancouver; at any other time it will only be one zone.

We found that taxi worked very well from the port to the airport and visa versa, and was reasonably priced at about 35 Canadian dollars.

We took a taxi from the airport to our hotel near the port, was quick and efficient. You can also check with the hotel you are staying at, some have shuttle service. We stayed at the Hampton Inn on Robson street, they offered a free shuttle to port in the morning, was very convenient.

Yes, so if OP is staying at a hotel in Richmond, that hotel might have a free airport shuttle... The next morning OP just needs to get to the Canada Line (any station) to get to the port, and would then not pay the surcharge -it's only from the few stations on the YVR leg that have that surcharge.

It depends on how you want to get there, and how many people in your party. You can take the SkyTrain, but when you buy tickets on Sea Island where the airport is located, they will tack on a $5 surcharge to each ticket, so one adult ticket will be $9.20 and a child ticket will be $7.90. Assuming you're 2 adults, 2 kids 12 and under, that's already $34.20 to take the train, and you have to drag your luggage a couple of blocks to port from the station. Vancouver has flat rate taxis from the airport to port. We paid $40 CAD after tip to get from airport to port. Well worth the extra few bucks to save myself the extra work to start my vacation off.
