Hi All,

Without hiring a car or using a taxi, we need to get from the Quality Inn Plaza on I-Drive to WDW (and back again!).

How easy is this going to be, how long will it take, and how much is it likely to cost?

The hotel seems to do free scheduled transport to Universal but not to Disney :(

It's not long till we go now :Pinkbounc and I'm worrying a bit about getting from our hotel to Disney and back again, as we'll probably want to do this at least 5 days, and I'll want to get there early, and come back reasonably late.

Thanks for your help,

Sebastian

I got the following info from thedibb.co.uk regardink Lynx buses:-

The link 50 is what will take you from near stop 37 on the I-Ride trolley right into the Ticket and Transportation Centre at Disney. This is a very popular bus at peak times so be prepared to wait a while to get on one. This bus runs every 30 minutes so it's not that long to wait if you miss one and it's amazing how many people the driver fits on this bus.
While you're waiting for this bus you may be approached by Taxi drivers offering to take you on the same journey for $2 or $3 which is good value if you don't want to wait for the next bus. They do however wait until the minibus is full before they leave. They will also offer to pick you up as well for the same cost, which is excellent value as they normally take you back to your hotel for this price.
One thing to be aware of when using the Link 50 is that they stop running from the TTC at 10PM so if the bus is full then you have an expensive Taxi journey to pay for.
Link 7 picks up at a number of places along I-Drive and its final destination is Florida Mall. The journey takes around 45 minutes and again it can be a very busy bus as it's also used for locals to get to and from work.
The link 21 can also be a useful bus as it stops near Wet n Wild and drops off at Universal studios, which saves you walking down a very busy stretch of road to Universal. Ask any I-Ride driver and they will show you where the bus stops

Hi Sebastion

We had no transport last year from I-Drive and found it so easy, what we done was, to take the free bus down to seaworld got off and crossed the carpark to the no 50 bus stop at the other side outside the hotel (sorry i can't remember the name of it at this minute, i'll get back to you on that) and take the LYNX bus to WDW transportation centre for $1.00. On the way back we caught the lynx bus back to seaworld then caught the I-Ride trolly back to I-Drive as the trolly's go into the seaworld car park, if you do this remember and buy your I-Ride trolly passes at your hotel before you go

Jean :bounce: :Pinkbounc :p

the quality inn plaza run a shuttle bus from the hotel it costs $12 per person round trip it runs at three different times 8 , 9 ,11. hpoe this helps

We also went last year with no car and didn't have many problems at all and there were many other families that did the same thing. However, make sure that you find out the correct time that the last bus leaves. We were given mixed information on this, missed the bus and had to get an expensive taxi, when we'd spent nearly all the cash we had with us that night. We nearly had to tell the driver to stop cause we didn't have enough money to go any further. And Be Warned, when you do get the last bus, IT IS VERY BUSY.:D

Thanks for your replies everyone - if anyone has any other options feel free to post.

The shuttle from the hotel seems a bit expensive at $12 each, compared to the public bus option, but I guess you pay for conveinience. If only I was over 25 so that I could hire a car without a stupidly high surcharge!
They should really look at no claims bonuses instead of age, I have to pay extra even though I have 5 years no claims, and some 40yr old who smashed his porsche last week doing 100mph down a country lane doesn't  sorry - rant over now!

Thanks again,

Sebastian
(Just 2 years 'till no age surcharges :Pinkbounc )

:( That's no good.

At least my own car insurance is looking better now, I remember when I first got my car and it cost me £1400 to insure!

Now I remember why it's easier to go to the USA with parents (this will be my first time over there without them). I'm only now realising how much effort and preparation they must have put in - and I'm feeling the strain trying to organise this trip for myself and 3 people who have never been to the US never mind WDW!

Sebastian.

My car insurance isn't that bad! (It a smart car, only 600cc!)

Anyway, most people say you're better off with a car if you've got the choice. Since you don't, the buses are certainly do-able, their just not the most convenient all of the time.

Also, we too had the taxi drivers stopping and offering to take us for $2/$3 each. We thought this was great value as a normal taxi was in the region of $30 or more. This happened mainly at the seaworld bus stop at the bottom of I Drive and a lot of people at the bus stop did this also. They didn't seem to wait till they were full when we were there. We did also arrange with one of these drivers to take us back at the end of one evening, as we'd already had the bad experience with missing the bus. We just arranged a meeting place for about half an hour after fantasmic finished and everything went smoothly. He also gave us his card and we did use him later in the holiday.

Transportation was also something that i worried about before i went last year but i needn't have worried. It all fell into place once we got there. We went into the Thomson office on I Drive and they have all the bus timetables and route maps there and the staff are very helpful. We were with Thomson, but nobody checked, so i suppose you could go and ask even if you weren't.:D

sebastian,

i used the hotels transport which can mount up a bit for 2 people but it was so convenient cos u knew which times it was coming at so u can plan your day better. Im staying at the quality inn international again this year and have never found many problems, there is good taxi services too. the other guys idea of getting bus to seaworld is knew to me, so i might try that this year , sounds cheap. Hope to see u there lol.
