booked with travel city for first time flying in 7 weeks. has anyone been with them and whats service like

Loads of threads about them - most are more negative than positive usually down to long delays with no customer service - but just search down a few pages and you should find some.

All airlines have delays but unfortunately TCD do seem to have alot more then most! Plus from what I have heard they dont deal with them very well. However, its only a small part of the holiday and as long as you get to see Mickey I dont spose it really matters!! :)

We are flying out in just over seven weeks. Not going with TCD but just wanted to say have a great time in case we don't meet up!!

Look out for us though we are staying at SSR and BCV!

This weekend their airline Excel left a planeload of customers at Manchester airport whilst they used their 747 to catch up on delays to Spain. This delayed the Sanford bound customers by about 10 hours.
They have now delayed the return of the Gatwick customers and they are delayed for 9/10 hours.

We used Travel City Direct last year. I've heard lots of negative things about TCD but my experience with them was problem free.

Hi
We had never flown with TCD, and had booked before discovering this Disboard. We started reading the reviews about TCD, but thought as we'd booked with them, we'd have an open mind. Boy were we in for a shock!

We boarded the plane on time, and set off down the the runway, then the plane screeched to a halt. We had a 24 hour delay! That was a full day of our long awaited, hard earned holiday - gone, all because their plane was incapable of flying. As far as we could gather, because TCD didn't give much away, they fixed the plane that night, but then didn't have a crew! They run on such tight budgets, that they have no back up!

We were not impressed with the plane, it was old, had no seat back TV's (my kids like watching the map, films etc), it even had ashtrays! and you couldn't even watch or hear the films, and the free food was absolutely awful. The only thing that was ok, was the leg room - but thats it! Sorry!

We said we would have an open mind - but I'm sorry - TCD - never again.

You can read the thread I posted;

We have booked with TCD to visit in april of next year, i really hope everything goes to plan. There has been no problem so far with us booking, paying and changing the order, so hopefully it will be the same for the rest of the journey. Im not too bothered about the plane, as long as its clean, we will have lots to look forward to so that will occupy us.

hi

we had a pretty good experience with tcd. well as good as it gets when your in the same seat for sooooooo long, but worth it in the end.

have a fab trip and dont worry about something that might not happen.

love

lucy

I have travelled many times with them and had no problems. Enjoy your trip!

A lot of people on hear dislike TCD properly cause they can provide holidays to florida much cheaper than others. Flew with them 3 times now, and must say that the service we recevied with them was excellent longest delay was 1 hour but hey every company has dealys not just TCD. The planes are old but are in the process of being replaced with newer models. If you want to find out more goto the TCD website home page find the Flordia Attractions page and then goto the discussion board, there you will find hundereds of satisfied TCD customers there.

Enjoy your holiday

hi i asked that question myself a couple off months ago.
All the replies i got were very nice saying that they got there early in some instances.
Like some people have already said every airline can have delays, and the planes are a bit old but you know that when you book with them.
If it gives you extra spending money at the end then even better!!!
Like simebody alse suggested check out the forum on there website people on there have flown with them loads off times and there's even staff members on there as well :cool1: :bounce:

eh ??

No its more likely to be because they have a regular track record of letting people down..for instance the Manchester flight this week that was delayed many hours because Excel decided to use the plane to fly to Spain and back first !!

Its the same as most things - people who like them have had no problems, people who dont got delays etc. ooking back through the numeroues TCD threads there seem generally to be more in the 2nd group than the first but thats not to say they are bad all the time.

Just to add as well, you'll always hear more negative points than positive as peolple enjoy moaning from the rooftops but not praising!

In fairness to TCD they are supposed to be updating their planes this year and next, also now they are using Excell which is part of the same group, they should have a back up if things go tech.

Ive flown them on a 747-200 and admit it was old- probably about 30 years or so and did look a little tired. However thats not to say they are not safe and to be honest, i rarely watch TV so did not miss not having a seat back TV, the seats were comfortable, I had a big bottle of water on my seat and the food was no different from Virgins.

Would I use them again? - Id be nervous because of the storys on here about delays, but if their price is good i would prob take the plunge again.

You hear lots of Negatives about TCD- and a lot of people like to bash them, but I dont think they are as bad as the picture sometimes painted on here.

We flew with TCD last September and generally had no problems (there were delays at Manchester but this was to do with suspected terrorist issues and not their fault). Airline staff were friendly except for one who seemed irritated that I went to ask for a glass of water!

My only compaint would be with some of the staff in Orlando. We stayed in a villa and had problems with the pool as the netting was broken - giant frogs suckered onto the patio doors and drowned in the pool are not a pretty sight and meant we were very wary of even sitting in the pool area! We had to go into their vistor centre on 4 seprarate occasions to compain before they sorted the problem out, by which time we were almost at the end of our two weeks. Thought this was especially bad as from the villa's visitor book it looked as if people had been complaining about the same issue since June. The staff's general opinion seemed to be that they couldn't see what we were bothered about.

I would recommend them overall as prices are pretty competitive and they offer quite a choice of accomodation, but just don't expect amazing customer service for the money!

Hope this helps :)

Virgin from Manchester were using 747-200s up until last year when they upgraded to the 400s. The Manchester planes are still the poor men of the Virgin fleet with the outdated in flight entertainment system. The 200s at least had Nintendo games on whereas the 400s don't.

I found it quite ironic that before boarding our 30 year old Manchester bound plane in Orlando, the LGW bound planes were telling us to fly the younger fleet. Cheeky sods.

North-South divide, you'd better believe it.

Only been with them once & would use them again, no problems.

The cheapest we could find for direct flights in August, but it was 3 years ago.
