Hi,

A few questions i have about Travel city since the take over from Virgin Holidays,

1. Can i still claim Virgin Flying Club miles from the flight as it is on VA.

2. Why is it so much cheaper than Virgin Holidays, ive priced up the same holiday in the same Villas, and the price difference is £1500 cheaper for 6 adults and 2 children, on exactly the same flights.
Total cost for TCD is £3870 including flights and a 5 bed superior villa in September 2010.

3. can i still take advantage of the extras you get with Va like, 2 x 23kg bags, seat choice, free drinks etc

I am not geting something? or is it really a bargain that cant be turned down?

1. Not sure about miles, if the price is right though I doubt it will stop you booking, just a bonus if you get them, even last VH trip(Xmas) I took they only gave 50% miles.

2. In my opinion its cheaper beacause VH are overpriced a lot of the time. Sometimes TCD are just as expensive, other times there are bargains to be found(as with all travel companies) looks like you have found a bargain.

3. http://www.travelcitydirect.com/info/flight_information/virgin_atlantic/extra_service/ Looks like you only get 1x23kg but everything else the same.
Another link to show you get seat choice. http://www.travelcitydirect.com/info/about/who_are_we/

Hi
I seriously panicked when I read the luggage allowance!

I've just called TCD and the person on the other end said for Orlando its 2 bags 23kg each per person.

We travelled with JetSave at Easter :)

Flew Virgin, claimed air miles, brilliant luggage allowance and savings of around £500 to boot :thumbsup2

Ooooh, and no ridiculous car insurance costs for the 'free' car :thumbsup2

Must be a typo on their site, they could do to correct that.

Hi
When I called TCD they took my reference number and said
'As you're going to Orlando its 2 bags 23kg each per person'
Do they go anywhere else?:confused3

Hi

We're off with TCD Nov 2010, we looked at Virgin as I'm a single mum, TCD still came out cheaper and we get to stay in Pop and Hard Rock! Fingers crossed it looks like the 'perks' of Virgin flights with the price of TCD! Am really pleased as it saved us a fortune - which means swimming with Dolphins this visit!

no you cant do that, we have booked with TCD for nov 2010 at a bargain price too & i have read & re read all of the T&C's at the back of the brochure & one of them was that you have to stay in the accomodation booked through them, abviously ppl have thought they can do this as the flights through Virgin can work out dearer that the whole holiday package from TCD!

beware though TCD make you have a car through them & the insurance is extortianate! they also tried to book us a 7 seater coz we have 3 children which was also dearer, i pointed out that i dont have a 7 seater at home ;)

still a bargain price though & you can set up a monthly direct debit with them to pay off the remaining balance:woohoo:

Just had a quick read thru T&C's online , can't see anything about having to take their hotel, only skimmed thru though might have missed it. What if you do don't like it? they can't make you stay there.

Not done it with TCD but from my experience travelling with Virgin Holidays the hotels are more than happy for you not to use the hotel as they at least save cleaning the room or at best they rent in out again and get double the money.

have just looked again in the brochure & its actually in the 'useful info' part, it says
'we provide package holidays , we DO NOT currently just sell flights.'
'we have decided to make a flat charge of £30 per person for any period of 7 nights or more spent on holiday not using any of our services , for example if you spend a week at one of our hotels but then spend a week doing your own thing , we will charge you £30 for that week per person.'

thats the bit i took as not being able to just use the flights & not the accomodation throught them, my friend even suggested to me that we use the flights & then dont stay at the original hotel we have chosen.

knowing me i have mis understood;)

Yes thats exactly the same as Virgin holidays they have an unpackaging fee of £30 but you just don't tell them, if you tell them they charge if you just call in the hotel and tell the hotel you are not going to use the hotel then you won't be charged anything.
With VH you can also get away with not taking the car as part of a flydrive, again don't tell them, just don't collect the car, with TCD thats not possible as you have to pay for insurance on their website(VH flydrive you don't)
