What happened to this thing?!? There is almost never anything travel related on any more!!! Friday is haunted house night, Wednesday and Saturday are poker nights, etc. Even the shows that are kinda, sorta travel related don't appeal to me. I don't like John Ratzenberger's show, Cash Peters seems like a jerk, and I'm so over Jack Osbourne.

Now, I like poker, but it's all over the dial. I'd like to see some travel related content too, and the Travel Channel is supposed to give it to me. Since they won't, why doesn't somebody else do it? How about Fox Travel, or replace either MSNBC or CNBC with NBC Travel? I'd watch.

I would like to see more travel, too. Especially more WDW-related travel programming :teeth: Sadly, this seems to be the evolution of many cable channels.

I agree! I used to watch The Travel Channel A LOT!! But now.....there's hardly anything other than Poker and Haunted stuff.... I can't stand televised poker.

They need some new stuff. I used to like the Road Trip series. Even the Travel Spies show wasn't bad.

I know exactly what you mean. My cable provider recently added the Travel Channel to their lineup. I had written to them three times over the past five years asking for the Travel Channel. Now that I have it, I am disappointed by the heavy emphasis on poker tournaments and haunted houses.

I totally agree, It used to be really good but nothings interesting anymore ...poker stuff?? who cares! Maybe soon enough people will complain and they will change it.

The haunted stuff is actually travel related. I watched Most Haunted tonight even though I don't like the show because Ordsall Hall is a wonderful old house that I'd love to see.

The other haunted shows deal with haunted hotels and the like. There are apparently many travelers that seek out sites that supposedly have "atmosphere" so in that respect the Travel Channel is meeting a travel need.

I can't say the same for poker though.

Planogirl, I agree that the shows about haunted sites do have value for travelers. However, the Travel Channel shows too many of those shows and not enough shows about other types of destinations. More balance in programming is needed.

Are there any shows about haunted locations on any other night besides Friday? I know that they sometimes use an older show as late filler but that's it isn't it?

Personally, I think that there's way too much poker. I can't in any way imagine what that has to do with travel.

I agree, but we like the John Ratz show.

And could they have any more commercials on this channel?? And similar channels like it. Holy carp!!!

I still like Samantha's shows and unlike the OP, I like Cash Peters a lot. I enjoy some of the Taste of America shows too. No Reservations can be fun but Anthony Bourdain is the one that can be a bit of a jerk at times IMO.

Anyway, there's still some good stuff on there and they should be starting their theme weeks soon too.

Agreed. They used to have some really good, interesting shows on there. Now, like everyones mentioned, poker and haunted houses. Goodness. Normally haunted stuff would be cool, but I don't like the ones they have on.

I agree. The Travel Channel has been one of my favorites until recently. When I first starting watching, they were always showing something interesting & new on different places. Now it seems my choices are poker and haunted places. Another gripe I have is when they do show something on a travel location it is from several years ago. With destinations changing it would be nice to have updated shows with what's new. The only one I've seen for this year is on Vegas. I have read that they are suppose to show some new shows, so hopefully they will be interesting.

I love, love, love to watch travel shows. Sadly, the Travel Channel needs to be renamed. Hmmm....that might be an idea for another thread???

I know, I too would always watch now there always seems to be the same shows on. We watched amazing vacation homes the other day and that was pretty interesting. I wish they would limit the poker shows (MY DH watches these :confused3 ) and I really hate the friday night line up. I hope they change back to more travel shows!

I've been complaining about the same thing. There's way too much Vegas, poker, and haunted stuff. How about some variety?

::yes:: I agree with all of you. Way too much poker stuff and haunted stuff on the Travel Channel. Tho, those Great Hotel shows that are on at 10am central time during the week with Samantha Brown are nice. But it is only on a half-hour or an hour and that's it :sad1: .
Wish they can put the Samantha Brown stuff on during primetime hours.

Travel Channel used to focus on amusement park week or beach week during primetime hours; I hope they will continue to do that. I love when they do the amusement park/waterpark shows!! I hope they don't discontinue those. :guilty:

Rosemarie :flower:

I guess my problem with WDW and travel is that they should show more of this stuff on the Disney Channel. I would love to watch a weekly show about the new things WDW has to offer and do some features on some of the attractions, Resorts, restaurants or nightlife WDW offers. Why let the Travel Channel have all of the Disney fun.

As far as the Travel Channel, the poker tour has to go. If it's not on the Travel Channel it's on ESPN2 or FoxSports all of the time.

I watch the Travel Channel myself and I'm very disappointed in the Poker shows as well. I will admit that I love watching the haunted house shows, oh, and the show about yachts. I do wish they had more on actual travel though. They use to show Disney related stuff and other destination type shows, but now...

Since I TIVO, I don't really care whether Samantha Brown is on primetime or 2 in the morning. But I just love her shows (although I don't think I'll ever be staying in any of the hotels that she generally stays in....$$$$). So much better than Rick Steves & Rudy Maxa on public TV.

i'm also looking forward to a new '5 Takes Europe' where they send 5 college kids ('travel journalists') to 5 cities in europe on a budget.

But everyone's right. What's poker got to do with travel. A little bit's OK but get off the bandwagon. The only poker show I watch is celebrity poker on Bravo.
