I recorded this show recently on the Travel Channel, and finally watched it last night. Having never been to DLR, our first trip this December has us pretty excited. I used the keyword search feature on my DirecTV DVR to find shows about Disneyland, and chose to record this one.

If you're a first-timer, and like me are anxious to absorb anything you can about the parks (and that's why you hang out on the DIS, right?), I found this show to be a great resource.

The show doesn't go really, really deep behind the scenes, but I did learn a few things that I had not already learned here on the DIS. And, best of all, there were plenty of video clips of the rides and the parks - this was the entire reason I recorded it, looking for anything that would help show me what to expect.

As far as behind-the-scenes: It includes a tour of Club 33 (including a quick shot of the "throne" toilet in the ladies' room). An imagineer shows how he came up with the idea for the Soarin' seating by whipping up a working model using his erector set from the attic. You get to see the Aladdin genie getting his prosthetic face applied during makeup. You get an education about how the POTC attraction turned into a water-driven ride with animatronic characters instead of a walk-through attraction with wax figures, all because of things learned by the imagineers while they were loaned-out to NYC for the world's fair. You get a demonstration of the Indy ride vehicle's hydraulic system, designed to help you react like you would if you were running through the attraction rather than seated in a vehicle. And more.

The show is from 2003, so there are a few things that were out-of-date. The POTC clips have no Jack Sparrow updates, and there are clips of the Abraham Lincoln animatronic figure, which I think I've learned (here on the DIS) is now gone? There was no mention of ToonTown, but I think I did see a shot of Minnie signing an autograph in front of what I believe was her house in ToonTown.

Anyway, according to IMDB.com (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0377789/), the next airing is scheduled for Sunday, September 23 at 5:00PM (Central?) on the Travel Channel, in case you're interested. That same day, the Travel Channel is also airing several other Disney-related shows, but those all seem to be about WDW hotels and parks.

Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing this info! Even though Ive been to DLR deveral times and probally watched that show on The Travel Channel a few times, I would love to watch it again. I believe my DH saw the end of it the other day and told me he wanted to record it but was too late. We have an upcoming trip to DL in JAN and we like to watch things about DL because it gets us even more excited! Have you ordered a free DLR vacation planning dvd from www.disneyland.com ? You might really enjoy watching that and it will give you current info on DL. It takes 2-3 weeks to arrive and did I mention it is FREE. Even though I've been there plenty of times, I like to order the current dvd each time to get us excited for the trip(not that we aren't already:banana: ).

I hope you have a wonderful FIRST TIME EXPERIENCE TO DISNEYLAND! I am so excited for you!!!!

My local cable company (Time Warner) has free On Demand Disney travel shows. I believe it was under Marketplace.

Mostly WDW but they had some cool.. behind the scene, myth or fact story lines for DL.
One had a view of Walt's apartment above the fire station, another the basketball court inside the Matterhorn.

I will check our cox on demand channel to see if we get that! Or Dianey planning video get's watched alot, maybe more then video's we have paid for!

Thanks for sharing! Wrote it down on my calendar and will set the tv (DVR) to record, or will make sure we are all available to watch!

I'm so disapointed because it was on last Saturday here and I had to work in the morning but was home by 2:00pm and the show didn't start till 3:00pm. so.... I thought I would take a nap and wake up to see it and I missed it!:headache:

Reminder: This show is on again today at 4:00pm CDT on the Travel Channel.

Oh boy! There's a bunch of Disney stuff on the Travel Channel today. Most of it's WDW, but the Behind the Scenes Disneyland is on at 5:00 PM. I set my DVR to record all of them.

The programs start at 2:00 PM, Pacific time if anyone is interested.

I wonder if the Soarin' stuff is the same as from the History Channel's Modern Marvels episode on WDW... That's a fun watch too and is sold on DVD at DL (that's where I bought it). They talk about the creation of Lincoln and AAs on that as well, it's a fun watch.

Lincoln, incidently, is supposed to return eventually. He was supposed to only be gone for the 50th, but his return kept getting pushed back. I think it's supposed to be early '08 now. Somebody else might have a better idea about this.

There's also good archival footage of Walt describing PotC, HM and more on AAs on one of the Disney Treasures volumes, also available at the parks. It's on the volume "Your Host, Walt Disney." This also includes some DL footage of a couple of the anniversary shows of DL, and shows the dedications of the monorail (Nixon cuts the ribbon), the subs and the Matterhorn.

Argh!! I missed it yesterday. I've got all the rest of the shows on VHS, but I really, really wanted to see DLR Behind the Scenes and tape it so I could watch it over and over! :yay: We were out there from GA last October and I need a fix! Anyone know when it might show again? :confused3 Anyone have a copy to share? PM me! This Disney Dame is Desperate!
