Here we go again! For those of you who missed it the first time, you'll get another chance to see the Travel Channel special on Disney Fans tonight at 8:00pm and 11:00pm central time.

It's been so cool to chat with the others in this production, and I know our family has had a blast being in the show. Here's a few pieces of "insider" information about our family as they were shooting.

1: Be kind -- the schedules I pass out to our family is a "guide" that helps us remember touring plans, traffic patterns, and preferred seatings. We are never bound to the schedule, and are very spontaneous (in fact we changed plan during the production after we found out the bridge from Asia to Dinoland was opened -- but that wasn't shown in the show). And the schedules were not laminated! :teeth:

2: Remember that you're only seeing about 1/100th of what we filmed. What they don't show is most of our touring plan, our 4x riding on Primeval Whirl, our lunch at Rainforest Cafe, our tip on entering the park through the Rainforest entrance, NOT going to Tarzan Rocks (wonder why they didn't put that in), tips on staying dry on Kali, and why we leave AK early (as most here would know). ;)

3: You don't see that there was another family riding with us on Kali without the poncho's. We had to ride three times in a row and the family they recruited was very excited on the first run. As the ride started they asked us why we had ponchos? The main reason you don't see much of this ride and this family is because they got off after the second run cussing up a storm! They were all soaked. We felt bad for them, but it would have made a great point as to why we take poncho's!

4: We were put at the front of the lines on every ride that day! No waits! Talk about being spoiled -- I wish we could have done that for a week. But there is a downside. The looks you get when the people who had just waited an hour in line had to wait for all five of us to walk up and board before them! We made sure to apologize to everyone, but some were not happy (we all can relate).

5: When we went to the Magic Kingdom, we were escorted to a roped off section right in the center of Main St. USA for Spectromagic. It was the week before Easter, and the park was PACKED. When all 5 of us plus the camera crew came in, we felt so bad for getting this preferential treatment at the expense of those behind us. After the parade was over, we turned and apologized to everyone behind us. On the curb was this older woman who spoke to me in broken English and said "I come all the way from Venezuela to see this parade." I felt AWFUL -- I took her hand and said, "Mam, I am SO sorry!" And she looked up with a big smile and said "NO! I get on American TV -- it's good, it's good!"

6: You'll notice that in the video we're in this kind of "wedge" formation when we're walking through the park. That is so difficult! I don't know about you, but when all 5 of us are in the park we go "serpentine" at breakneck speeds at times. First of all, only three of us have a microphone (we were told one of the microphones was used by Janet Jackson in her infamous "costume malfunction"), so those who didn't have microphones had to stand next to those who did. In front of us there was this "arrow" of people in the crew. There were interns making a way through the crowds, an HD cameraman, the sound man (yay, George!) with a boom microphone, and two guys holding up light reflectors. They all had to walk backwards, so our "wedge" had to walk at about a snails pace. Many times people would try to get into the shot. Once we were done with the show in the MK, they released us and we had an hour to ride on our own time. We left the hub and made it all the way to the entrance to Frontierland before we realized we were still walking in the "wedge" formation! At the same time, we all asked "What are we doing?" and went back to our normal "serpentine" formation at double speed!

So many stories, maybe we'll have some more time to share some more. Watch tonight and laugh! Erika and Joslyn -- any tidbit stories you'd like to share?:earsboy:

I was excited about getting to catch the show tonight. Now, with your great commentary, I can tell my DH I know the people in this show, lol. He thinks it's hilarious how I talk about the disboarders as if they are talking directly to me and are my dear friends, lol. Thanks for the post. I definitely can't wait now.

I managed to catch the show Sunday night. It was really neat, glad you and your family got to participate. I wish the show had been longer. They tried to get a lot of ground covered in a very short span of time. Congratulations again on the show.

I have the show on tape but haven't watched it yet - can't wait.

I'd love more details on your AKL tips. Why skip Tarzan and leave the park early??

Thanks for the tips. Although we've been many times, I'm always looking for more info.

Dave, I feel as though I am in the presence of a celebrity! I watched the first airing of the show (although I missed the first 10 minutes of the show) and now I find out you are just down the road from me a bit, in Lakeville! (I'm in Stillwater!) Thanks so much for sharing the behind the scenes stuff with us. Maybe there is another thread about this, but how did they pick your family for this special honor?

It is soooo fun getting the inside scoop - thanks for hanging out here! And thanks for the reminder - I had forgotten this was on again tonight!

And the schedules were not laminated!

(whispering) I was going to do this........

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I watched Sunday night, taped it and will watch it again tonight!

My family really enjoyed the show -- I thought it was great how you had a schedule. I sort of keep one myself on index cards, but don't hand it out . . . maybe I"ll do that next time!

So cool that you're posting here -- I have to tell my DH that I "know" somebody from 3 of the 4 groups! So cool!

This is so fun -- we had 30 over at our house when the program first aired -- now with everyone on these boards it feels like I've got even more over tonight!

KES -- the reason we don't go to the Tarzan Rocks show is because in our opinion (and a few others on this board), well let's put it this way, it's the one we'd vote "most to miss." The Lion King show was fun when the kids were younger, but if you look carefully at us being "lions" in the show, you can tell that our hearts are fully into it. We were having fun, but knew those camera were 3 feet away -- and the boys had their "cool" to keep. We leave AK early because if you get there when it opens, you'll usually be done before dinner. We'd easily spend more time in it if there were a couple more E-Ticket rides (come-on Everest!).

Blanq -- HEY, Neighbor! Someday I hope to get to the Depot there, but I keep spending my money on these darn DW trips! To answer your question, we were told of the open auditions for this show (I believe they were posted on this site, too -- but found it elsewhere), filled out a form, and sent in an audition video. When they narrowed down the list, they called and did a hour-long interview. It seemed like a long process, but now it seems like a blur.

Well, watch tonight and I'll stay online if you have any more Q's while the show is airing. I hope Erika and Joslyn will join us!

Having been involved in television productions before, it's a lot more work than it appears and takes a TON more time for sure. Thanks for the insights! I applied for the couple position and we were asked to submit a tape, then DH chickened out (grrrrrr), so no show for us this time. ::sigh::

I just had to comment on the poncho thing. No offense to Dave or anyone else who does that, but what's the point?! I mean, really, with a ride like Kali the entire point is to get wet. It's not like it's a very long or interesting ride (unlike, say, Splash). So why even ride it if you don't want to get wet? In my experience watching people who have ridden with us in ponchos, you still end up at least sitting in water and you end up fidgeting with it the entire time to keep yourself covered. IMHO, either go on the ride and get wet, or just skip it.

Yay! I'm so excited to find out most of the people on that show were DISers! I didn't realize until your post that you were too! I've seen it already and thought it was great; I still have it on Tivo for future reference! Thanks for your tips. You seem like you have a very nice family!

Thanks for the inside scoop on filming the Ultimate Fan's Guide, DAve. I watched teh show on Sunday and taped it for my mom to get her psyched for our big trip at the beginning of September. I know it sure got me psyched. I enjoyed "meeting" your family and the other Disney fans featured in the program. Everyone on the program seemed very nice!

I am curious as to what the selection process was like for you and your family. How did you find out they were looking for Disney fans to do the show? How did the others in our family feel about doing it? What was the selection process like? Did you get a few days at WDW to yourselves when filming was done?

Ack, sorry to inundate you with questions. Great show and you have a lovely family!

Oh, thanks for the helpful hints on watching the show! I missed the first viewing by accident so I really can't wait for this! You're famous! Bask in your moment of glory!

Dave I bow down to the schedules, but I am a little disapointed that they weren't laminated. ;)

I really enjoyed the show and realize that if the fans ran the show we would have a 24 hour a day Disney travel chanel. :hyper:

Glad you are posting here. You'll feel right at home!

First, Welcome to our Dis Family!

Thanks for your insider views also - Erika and Joslyn have posted their experiences when this first aired - just look for the posts by TigrLvsPooh & frndshpcptn. Erika started TODAY IS THE DAY!!!!! Fan's Guide: Walt Disney World!! back in July!

Tag Fairy????

Can we get one more celebrity tag over here please?

Hi Dave!

So great to have you here posting. I love all the inside info you provided us.

I so enjoyed your happiness and excitedness over Disney!!

Wish my DH felt that way!!

I was wondering. Did they tell you exactly when to go down, where you were staying and where you'd be filming? Did they plan all the restaurants? Was it all in one day? Did they pay for everything, even the resort? If so, that's just wonderful for you and your family!!

Did your teenagers love the experience as well?

Thanks so much for sharing!

Dave so great to have you here:wave: I enjoyed seeing your family on the show. Your kids are so nice. Are they that cool all of the time?;)

I noticed that several of the people on the show mentioned the emotional bond they have with WDW. I've been saying that for years (to anyone who would listen). I think that is what sets WDW apart from anywhere else.

Nice job on the show. Hope you'll drop by here often:earsboy:

Welcome to the DISboards! I enjoyed what I saw of the show the other night, but got a phone call about half way through. But, I'm watching tonight!

Lot's o Q's -- so here goes.

WDWguru -- Ah, the poncho debate! No offense taken! Here's my take. We buy a few of the cheap pocket ponchos at Walmart or the Dollar Store before we go, and pack them in our pockets or fanny packs. They have saved us on a number of occasions -- both from Kali, Popeye (OK, so this one gets you no matter what), and rain. When we're done with them we either throw them away or hand them off to other people about to get in line. Once we did that and were walking back about an hour later, and two of our poncho's were still being recycled! Better dry than that "magical" feeling in your shorts after being wet for a few hours. Also, on the day we were shooting, we still have a bunch left to do and my wife didn't want "Kali-hair." To each their own!

Bigtinkfun -- the selection process started with responding to a posting, sending in an audition video, and a long on-phone interview. I found out about it when someone I was advising pointed me to the letter online. Everyone in our family was psyched about it! One lucky thing in our family is that we're each equally crazed about our Disney trips. We did get the 1/2 day before the taping and another day after the taping to play in the parks unmolested. It was not as fun, but we were glad to be there! We're headed back in a little more than a week for a "real" vacation.

Beattyfamily -- The production company had only a two-week window to shoot (I believe) and we caught the tail end (we were the last ones shot). They let us make and submit our own schedules -- though you don't really get a feel for it in the show. We made recommendations for dinner (we wanted Ohana's since we were going to MK, but were glad to settle for Boma). Yes, all we paid for were souvenirs. Our teen boys had a great time -- tidbit: My oldest son's day was made when someone in the crowd though he was some teen-idol, and my middle son was shmoozed by a table full of girls at Boma during dinner -- he forgot that he still had his microphone on, and the sound man teased him about it the rest of the night!

Getting ready for another round!

Oh, well..., you know! Yeah, I've been blessed by three great kids, but no one can be cool all the time! :teeth:
