Here we go again! For those of you who missed it the first time, you'll get another chance to see the Travel Channel special on Disney Fans tonight at 8:00pm and 11:00pm central time.
It's been so cool to chat with the others in this production, and I know our family has had a blast being in the show. Here's a few pieces of "insider" information about our family as they were shooting.
1: Be kind -- the schedules I pass out to our family is a "guide" that helps us remember touring plans, traffic patterns, and preferred seatings. We are never bound to the schedule, and are very spontaneous (in fact we changed plan during the production after we found out the bridge from Asia to Dinoland was opened -- but that wasn't shown in the show). And the schedules were not laminated!
2: Remember that you're only seeing about 1/100th of what we filmed. What they don't show is most of our touring plan, our 4x riding on Primeval Whirl, our lunch at Rainforest Cafe, our tip on entering the park through the Rainforest entrance, NOT going to Tarzan Rocks (wonder why they didn't put that in), tips on staying dry on Kali, and why we leave AK early (as most here would know).
3: You don't see that there was another family riding with us on Kali without the poncho's. We had to ride three times in a row and the family they recruited was very excited on the first run. As the ride started they asked us why we had ponchos? The main reason you don't see much of this ride and this family is because they got off after the second run cussing up a storm! They were all soaked. We felt bad for them, but it would have made a great point as to why we take poncho's!
4: We were put at the front of the lines on every ride that day! No waits! Talk about being spoiled -- I wish we could have done that for a week. But there is a downside. The looks you get when the people who had just waited an hour in line had to wait for all five of us to walk up and board before them! We made sure to apologize to everyone, but some were not happy (we all can relate).
5: When we went to the Magic Kingdom, we were escorted to a roped off section right in the center of Main St. USA for Spectromagic. It was the week before Easter, and the park was PACKED. When all 5 of us plus the camera crew came in, we felt so bad for getting this preferential treatment at the expense of those behind us. After the parade was over, we turned and apologized to everyone behind us. On the curb was this older woman who spoke to me in broken English and said "I come all the way from Venezuela to see this parade." I felt AWFUL -- I took her hand and said, "Mam, I am SO sorry!" And she looked up with a big smile and said "NO! I get on American TV -- it's good, it's good!"
6: You'll notice that in the video we're in this kind of "wedge" formation when we're walking through the park. That is so difficult! I don't know about you, but when all 5 of us are in the park we go "serpentine" at breakneck speeds at times. First of all, only three of us have a microphone (we were told one of the microphones was used by Janet Jackson in her infamous "costume malfunction"), so those who didn't have microphones had to stand next to those who did. In front of us there was this "arrow" of people in the crew. There were interns making a way through the crowds, an HD cameraman, the sound man (yay, George!) with a boom microphone, and two guys holding up light reflectors. They all had to walk backwards, so our "wedge" had to walk at about a snails pace. Many times people would try to get into the shot. Once we were done with the show in the MK, they released us and we had an hour to ride on our own time. We left the hub and made it all the way to the entrance to Frontierland before we realized we were still walking in the "wedge" formation! At the same time, we all asked "What are we doing?" and went back to our normal "serpentine" formation at double speed!
So many stories, maybe we'll have some more time to share some more. Watch tonight and laugh! Erika and Joslyn -- any tidbit stories you'd like to share?
