Hi
I have an unusual question that maybe someone has had experience with. My mother and her DH are elderly with a few health issues. They are going with us to Disney for their first time and I am concerned about all the walking and waiting. I mentioned we could rent a ECV for them. My mother asked if they could just bring a portable chair for resting or while waiting in line. I know when we wait in line, the line is usually moving so the chair might not be usable then but they could probably stop as needed to sit if they had a portable chair. This is what I found online.

Has anyone had experience with this issue? Has anyone used a chair like this before? Thanks

Those kind of chairs are not allowed - as you mentioned, the lines keep moving, so it would be a constant up and down situation. Then, once you get to the ride, it can't stand up by itself like a wheelchair and plus be kind of big o fold and bing on. Those are some of the reasons they are not allowed.

Some people don't feel comfortable with the idea of driving an ECV - they re afraid of running into things and just generally driving it.
If tht is the case, a push wheelchair is a good option. Someone does have to push it though and some people don't like being dependent on someone else.

They may want to consider a rollator - they are walkers with wheels and a fold down seat. They are becoming very popular with people who need a little support while walking and need a seat they can fold down whenever they need to sit. You can find them to purchase in many places. They range from under $100 to over $600, depending on the options.
Here's a link to a search page from Walmart showing rollators

And, a picture of one of the less expensive ones.

They are handled just like wheelchairs at attractions, so they would be able yo bring it all the way to the boarding area.

Thank you. I think I may try to convince them to use the ecv. I think it would be easiest for them.

A real problem is most people tend to walk 8-12 miles per day while at WDW. It is not just the waiting in line; that is the least part of it. For example the queues for Soarin' and Safari are both over 1/4 mile long.
