Just been looking into this and have found:

http://www.bubblebum.co.uk/

Anyone had any experience of buying/using one of these?

Are they legal in the US?

Seems a lot cheaper than paying the inflated prices that some car hire companies charge.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question, but wow, well found! It really is the simplest ideas that are the best. We have trailed booster seats across the world and they are such a pain - I will be getting one of these.

I would have thought that since it meets all the necessary safety requirements in the UK, it would be ok in the US, but obviously do check. One of the testimonials on their site is from someone that took it to the US, but I appreciate that doesn't mean it is legal.

explains it a little better - it seems all children up to 5 have to be restrained, but this can be with a normal seat belt after age 3 - bizarre! It does suggest using a booster if the seat belt doesn't fit properly, but I am really surprised at how lenient the law is. So you should be fine with this seat, and safe in the knowledge that it does meet UK / European safety requirements.

We toyed with the idea of something along these lines, but they do seem a little limited for bag space - but still a great idea.

As I am a little tight on the old reddies, I was looking for a cheap option which I could leave out there, but now I found the bubble bum, I think I will bring it back and use for other trips as well.

I am surprised as well that my DS doesn't need any special restraints. He is quite tall for his age, but using the seat belt alone rubs against his neck, so we will be giving him a booster seat for the US.

The bubble bum does seems comfortable as well.

I bought cheap booster seats from Tesco Direct (£4.99) during a promotion, otherwise the Bubblebum would have been great.

Excellent spot :thumbsup2
