I am wondering if anyone has driven to Anaheim from Vegas recently and what the traffic is like. Right now our plans have us driving from the St. George area on a Sunday morning which would probably have us hitting the Primm area around 10 or 11 am. I know pre covid traffic was particularly bad on Sunday mornings as so many Californians where headed home from Vegas. Does anyone know if that is still the case? Or know what time the Primm bottleneck gets backed up at?

Yes that is still the case. You need to get through Primm BEFORE 8am to beat traffic. 6-7am is the best time especially if it’s hot. Usually traffic begins around 9-10 when people leave the hotels. Check the GPS for any traffic alerts before driving out too.

Thanks for the info. I was afraid that would be the case. We might have to reevaluate our plans to try and avoid the Sunday rush. We got caught in it once years ago when drove straight through and what should have taken 12 hours max took us almost 16. I swore never again. o_O

Don't do it on a Sunday OR Monday. If you can swing it at all, do it either Saturday or Tuesday.
Mondays are bad too? That I was not aware of. Our hotel is for Sunday in Anaheim so it will have to be Saturday instead. On different trips we’ve stopped overnight in Mesquite, Vegas,Barstow, and Hesperia. I guess it’s time fir some research to see what our options are.

Not necessarily. It depends on what is going on in Vegas. If there was an event during the weekend, people stay through Sunday and then leave Monday. In my experience the traffic on Monday is better than Sunday, but if you need to drive through the city to get to Primm on Monday, the city traffic can be the hold up. When you drive in from St. George it is on the north end of Las Vegas, Primm is south.

Yeah, a lot of people take a long weekend and check out and head home Monday.

The worst is Thanksgiving weekend. We made the mistake of stopping in Vegas on our way home form Park City. I swear it was stop and go from the Strip to the CA border.

Yes, if you can avoid Sunday and recently Monday hasn't been any better. I live near the Cajon pass, if people around here can help it, they don't go anywhere if it involves going south on the 15th freeway on a Sunday. Lately,, Monday morning commuter traffic has been getting worse too because people have started trying to avoid Sunday traffic by leave Monday instead...I know that used to be my trick when we were making more frequent trips to Stateline and Vegas....lol

So how are Saturdays? At this point we are looking at driving to the Barstow/Hesperia area and spending the night but I'm wondering about just trying to do it all in one day and push through. We have done the drive from the Salt Lake Valley in one day before and even done it overnight but those were in younger years. Generally it would take us about 12 hours.

Saturday should be fine, unless of course there is an accident, which can mess things up on any day. If you decide to stop in Barstow or Hesperia Saturday, just make sure you get on the road by 9a or 10...traffic starts backing up in the Cajon pass around 11.

We did the same thing. The Sunday after Thanksgiving one year was brutal. I highly suggest OP leave as early as possible from St. George. We've done two Sundays to Anaheim from St. George and regretted it both times. I think if you left around 5 or 6 am, you'd have better luck.
