Travel Alert Just Issued for Europe.

Yikes! My boss is on vacation in France for two weeks, last week and this week. I hope she is safe and hasn't encountered any of this craziness.

My son and his family live in Sweden. At least they're not near a major city.

We have survived 2 world wars and terrorism in the form of baader meinhof gang, eta and the ira. We will get through this as well. Its not stopping me from visiting any of the bigger cities in my country. I will not let a coward like Bin Laden force me to change the way I live.

DH is in Greece but will be returning through Paris. He has several European trips scheduled for this fall. It makes me a bit uneasy. At least when he was in Iraq he a a weapon.

Well, I live in the heart of Europe (Belgium) and I move a lot (Paris, Netherlands, Germany) and I'm not really scared....Like PaulaSB12 said, we survived two world war and a lot of "alerts" so....Be quiet, if it was a real risk, people who lived there will have heard about it....Europe ins't like Iraq....

 to all the stressed family !

My thoughts are with all of our European friends. Stay safe everyone :goodvibes

:thumbsup2 Still have my trip to Paris on tap. I live in a major inner city. Unfortunately I probably have a better chance of crime right here in NYC.

Be safe friends.

My friends daughter is in France for the year going to school. I better call her, she's going to be a mess.:sad2:

I don't think the point is necessarily to scare people or keep them from traveling. It's to keep people aware and give them information to help them make decisions.

We've had these elevated alerts here in the past. If I had a trip planned I would still go.

I have a friend living in Europe for a few years for her DH's job, I hope they don't have to leave-they are LOVING it but I hope they stay safe too.

Well, I just responded to the few people who seemed to over-estimate the information.....;).

(but you know, it's the end of the High Season so....yeah, definitely, it's a good time to look for bargain !)

I leave for Paris this Friday. I'm certainly concerned, but it's hard to know what to think because the "threat" is so non-specific. I may skip going to the top of the Eiffel Tower (don't like heights anyway). Stay out of public places? Don't really know what that means. Luckily, our hotel is centrally located, so we can walk pretty much everywhere. I'm not altering any plans, and I'm always vigilant in any city. Love those fun-lovin al quaeda boys!

Good to know, however I'm not planning any type of trip to Europe for awhile.

I'm an American who lived in Europe for three years. My husband lived in several European countries for 12 years. He and I are planning to move back in the next two years. Of course, I would be careful in any large tourist spot as I was when I lived there before. But, chances are, there is a greater chance of you being robbed or killed in a U.S. city than a Europen city, even with this threat.

Of course terrorists plan more attacks in Europe. They plan more attacks HERE! I'm still traveling around the US and not holed up in my house and I'll still visit Europe, given half a chance. (If only the frequent flyer seats would open up.) For that matter, I probably feel safer in a British city than almost any other, since they had to deal with the IRA for decades and had the jump on us when it came to dealing with these issues.

Use some common sense....which tourists ought to do anyway.....and you should be fine. Yes, something could happen. But WDW or DL could be a terrorist target as well, and you don't see any of us calling off our trips there, do you?
