Travel Agent vs. Disney Booking

I have our cruise booked through Disney. We are not paid in full yet. I see these links saying to see if I can save or get onboard ship credit if I switch the booking to a TA. Just wondering if there are advantages/disadvantages to this? If it is booked with a TA, can I still access it just the same on the Disney website to add excursions and such?? I hope my question makes sense. I'm just not sure if I need a TA or not. I have never used one.

You can transfer your booking to a Travel Agent, as long as it's within 30 days of making the reservation. After that, no.

While you can get some Onboard Credit (from some TAs) the amount is less than if you had booked the original reservation through the TA. For example: if you had booked your reservation through a TA, they might offer $200 OBC for the booking. But, if you book through DCL, and then transfer to a TA, you will probably only get about $100 OBC.

Using a Travel Agent only limits what things you can call DCL directly to deal with - anything monetary (making payments, for example); or changing anything about the reservation (want to change rooms, or cruise dates, dining seating). All other things (excursion bookings, online check in, selecting Port Arrival Time) you do yourself.
