Further to my reply to UKDEB's post about single trip insurance, I thought I'd pass on the details of a website I found last night.

Travel Insurance Web.com

They gave me a quote of only £37.70 for 18 days full cover for a family of four for a trip to the USA, just £17.95 for an individual for the same period !!

I've looked over the site, and it says all the right things about the cover, who they insure thru, etc

Those are amazing quotes ! The cover also seems top flight, the usual £10 millon medical expenses, £2 million 3rd person liability etc. The only proviso is that you have to agree to their medical terms - ie, that pre-existing conditions - I am a diabetic - or problems treated in the last 12 months are not covered. However, I dont see that as a problem, I'm largely concerned about medical cover in the event of an accident or other illness, etc.

As long as they confirm I'll be covered for accidents and non-diabetes related illness, I'll be going with them.

They also operate a price guarantee - if you find an equivalent policy elsewhere cheaper, you get your money back and the insurance free !

Though at those prices, I'd be amazed if they ever have to pay up... Unless of course, you know better ! ;)

I hope this helps some of you out !

WOW, I just got an Annual couple quote for £63! By far the cheapest I've come across so far (my annual insurance is up for renewal) I have very mild asthma which wouldn't be covered but that's fine by me - has anybody heard of these people before?

That sounds like a graet quote.I need to buy a family annual insurance so I will lok at this company:p

Just a word of caution, if something seems too good to be true, it usually is !

Have you looked at the 'contact us' screen on their website? They are only contactable via e-mail. Have you tried downloading their 'policy wording' page, nothing happens !

The value in any insurance policy can only be judged when making a claim. How would you like to be stuck in an american hospital faced with huge medical bills after an accident only to find no one replying to your e-mails for claiming off your insurance?

I have no knowledge of this company and am not in a position to make any authoritative comment about them, but I am in the market for travel insurance and this website has not persuaded me to part with my money!

Keasden,

You're right to be cautious about using an unknown company, but I have made a few checks and feel no more concerned about this outfit than any other whose website I have perused as well.

I also had a problem downloading the policy document, so I have emailed them asking for a copy to be mailed to me.

I read the company info, and then did some basic checks online about the company and those they use for claims, assistance etc.

The company is a sub-division of Club Direct UK Ltd, a West Sussex based outfit. Their contact number is 0800 083 2466. I shall be calling them tomorrow to ask a few questions about the cover etc.

They use a company called Claims Settlement Agencies Ltd to deal with their claims - they are also listed on many other insurance brokers websites and spoken of as being a well used, reputable outfit. I have not yet found any info on the company they use for emergncy contact and assistance, but I will. I'm sure that if anyone else who looks into it finds anything, they will share it.

As for contacting them in an emergency, it clearly states on the site that all contact numbers needed are provided on your policy documents that you recieve after purhcase. You also have a 14 day money back guarantee - if you received the paperwork and found no numbers or other info missing, you could cancel. Also I have emailed them twice in the last few days and both times I recieved a reply within a few hours. Ok, not a sure sign of good service, but not a bad start.

Another thing in their favour to my mind is that I found them after doing a search on kelkoo.co.uk. I'd think a site as reputable as kelkoo would check into the companies it provides advertising and links to.

Anyway, each to their own. So far I see no reason to feel that this company would be any worse to deal with than the majority of others. Yes, the rates are very good, and you could be right that it might be too good an offer to be true, but so far I've found nothing to suggest that's the case - if I do I'll look elsewhere. I certainly wouldn't be looking to save the odd 20 or 30 quid at the risk of jeopardising our care in the hopefully extremely unlikely event that we do need medical or other assistance. If you'd feel safer paying over a bit more cash, then thats worth it to you.

Only 6 weeks now.... :hyper:

Beejay.
I've done just like you and got them to send me the written details of the policy via Email.
Last year Dh had to claim as he was in hospital for 3 nights and our insurance company was just a nightmare.
The policy is free with Royal Bank of Scotland for gold members, so technically we don't need to buy insurance but like I said, every little thing, they kept us dangling in the air about whether treatment could be permitted, I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown, I was so frightenend we were going to be stuck with massive bills.8 months after we got back, we had a really nasty letter from lawyers representing the hospital, calling for us to settle unpaid bills. I got in touch with the insurance company and gave them such an ear bashing-you just don't need that kind of thing after you get back from holiday.
Anyway , we have decided to buy a policy this year as we don't have any faith in our free one anymore.
This one looks just fine. Thanks for posting the thread

You're very welcome Lin !

Now if I can only find an airline that will fly us to the US for 40%less than we usually pay... ;)

Thanks for the info Beejayjay - the very reasons keasden mentioned were the reasons why I was asking if anyone had heard of them. Being a natural cynic, I was wondering about it being so cheap, but figured that with the health pre-conditions being removed from the claim picture, that could conceivably be why their premiums are so low.

Keep us posted with anything else you hear - oh, and in all your digging, have you heard at all about how long they've been in business?

Ok, I managed to get the policy wording document to download - you need Adobe Reader if you dont have it already, but there is a link to download it on the same page as the link to the wording document itself.

Instead of just clicking on the link to open it as normal, right click it, then select Save Target as]/B] from the menu. Then just save it to your desktop to make it easy tofind, and then click the open box when you get the message saying download complete, and you should have the policy there to read.

I've had a look over it, and it seems to be as I'd expect, the only real difference from most other policies is the one we already know about, no cover for pre-existing conditions. And as promised, the various contact numbers for claims, medical or other assisiatnce are provided on the policy.

Penny, I haven't been able to find out how long they've been trading. I did find out that the administration of their policies is done by the previously mentioned Club Direct but they are apparently underwritten by a company called The Professional Travel insurance Comppany, which has many references to it on othe brokers sites too.

Looks like they've got at least one new customer ! :D

The address given for this company is in Chichester, which is where Iwork. I will go down there on Monday to see if there is anyone actually there! It might help if I can actually speak to someone in person, although of course the real test would come inthe event of a claim. But of course we hope that won't be necessary.

Club Direct is also located in Chichester, but the quote I got from them online was almost £30 more than Travel Insurance Web though. I have been to their old offices although from the website it looks as though both companies are now at the same address.

Looking at both policies, the tavel ins web looks a better policy. There is a cut off age though. This policy is not available for those over 50.

I need travel insurance, so I hope this is OK as it certainly looks a good buy.

Carol
