OK......I am at the BCV right now and I am wondering, did it recently become common practice for mouse keeping to just hand over a basket full of towels/tp/trash bags, etc.? We had a knock on the door at 8:30 this morning and the women gave my dh the basket and asked for our trash. We have noticed baskets left outside of guest rooms all week.:confused3

No, they should come in and hang the towels and take away the dirty ones. Also collect the trash and put new liners in. In some resorts, they do leave baskets outside the door for the housekeepers instead of pushing a cart but the housekeeper is still supposed to come in.

We had trash and towel today at AKV-J and the mousekeeper sang as she went about replacing our towels and emptying all our trash (we had taken some earlier to trash room) and replaced our toiletries and coffee. She even gave us an extra coffee pack!

I was at BCV in April, & had regular towel and trash service when we were away at a park.

Maybe they thought you were staying in the villa and didn't want to bother you. Since they didn't have to vacuum or change bedding, etc, they could just give the fresh towels to you and be out of your hair.

FWIW, DP was in the room when housekeeping came by on T&T day. She took the time that was required in order to leave the new towels arranged in comparable fashion to that of a new occupancy.

Is it possible there was a communication problem? Many housekeepers speak English with a strong Portuguese or another accent. It can be just as difficult for them to understand us as it is for us to understand them. Maybe she thought you didn't want to be disturbed.

Looks like her plan worked. ;)

Absolutly not, this is not the norm. We just returned home this past weekend from a 16 night stay at the BCV and had a fantastic housekeeper. We had a T&T, FC, FC, T&T. We called and had our first FC changed and it worked perfectly (first time ever). Whether it was a T&T or FC, our housekeeper came in and took care of everything. Yes, they do use the "basket" method. On full cleaning days, we actually had our housekeeper stop by early in the morning to remind us that we were due a full cleaning. I agree with a PP that often some folks will ask for the clean towels on T&T day, so maybe there was just a communication mixup.

We just got back from a short stay at BWV. On Trash & Towel day our trash was emptied but our new towels were just left stacked on the counter in the room. Our used towels weren't even taken from the room. I guess the service you get all depends on the Housekeeper assigned to your room.

I've never stay at BCV so I can't say what the norm is for that property. However what they did to you was totally unacceptable & should be reported. I would guess that this particular Housekeeper tries to do as little as possible. I would certainly be quite annoyed to have a housekeeper knocking on my door at that hour of the morning. Personally I put out the privacy sign the night before scheduled service so they don't disturb me while I'm still in the room. I take it down when I leave the room for the day. Unfortunately this doesn't stop them from calling the room to see if anyone will answer the phone. I realize that some members prefer this type of service but it should in no way be normal practice. Now if someone has any clue as to how to get the mousekeepers to replenish the paper & plastic goods in the studio units I'd appreciate a few pointers. We always end up having to call for more supplies. I'm used to having to grab extra knives, forks, spoons & napkins from CS places. But is it too much to ask that they replenish the plates, bowls & paper towels at least?

We have found that normally housekeeping at DVC resorts is a mixed bag.

The CM's including the Front Desk don't seem to understand the cleaning schedule. We find supply baskets outside our door on incorrect days, baskets on correct days and the Mousekeepers don't show up.

We had a black trash bag with dirty linens parked outside our door for 4 days at SSR despite several calls to Mousekeeping and the Front Desk, (that's when I verified that Front Desk calls are answered by a call center).

My guess is that we have cleaning issues around 60% of the time.

Actually, I think they start around 8AM. So 8:30 isn't that early.

Everyone always complains when they can't get into their room/villa by 3 or 4, yet they don't want housekeeping starting until 10 or so.

Actually your housekeeper did exactly what we like for them to do. Give us the basket, and we give them what is dirty, what we don't need back and we take out our trash daily so it really is no reason for them to take it.

She probably thought she was doing you a favor.

If you did not want this, your husband should have simply said, come on in, when she asked for the trash.

I got trash and towel + service during my recent Kidani stay. Not only did I get towels, trash emptied, 3 coffee packs, new toiletries but I also got extra care! I had left very early for a tour and the housekeeper made the bed, gave me a clean coffeepot and mugs, straightened the curtains. I was so tickled! I called the central number to find out her name and I tried to track her down to personally thank her (unfortunately I checked out and never found her). We must have 35 or so DVC stays under our belts and we have always had towels hung up, trash emptied, etc.

Same with us. We prefer that Mousekeeping NOT enter the room at all unless it is our day for a full cleaning.

We are at BCV now and there was a ton of baskets outside of people's rooms. Going to call about this.

Some resorts they use the baskets, other resorts they have housekeeping carts. At BWV, they have the carts.

I want to be clear I was not complaining--we, too, kinda like that housekeeping isn't in and out of our room. I was simply asking if this was something new. We were at the BCV in September, and did not see any baskets.

To my surprise, the day after I posted here, we returned to our room, and we noticed the trash was taken care of. A little while later, we received a phone call from the housekeeping manager who was very concerned about the service we did/did not receive. She explained she had received an email regarding our incident! I was shocked! I know the boards are monitored, but how did she know who I was????? I assured her that I did not send any email (which she knew).

She explained that they stopped using the carts in November and now use the baskets in lieu of the carts. The housekeepers will leave the baskets at the door, but are to return to do the service. I told her we were not upset at all, and I appreciated her call! She was a lovely woman. :)

Anyway, I was not annoyed or upset, just genuinely confused about the new system. Thanks to all who replied.
