I know Disney prides itself on it's cleanliness, so I'm wondering how often this happens?

I took this picture on April 3rd 2008 around 4:00pm at MK. I was pretty disappointed, because I'd heard so much about Disney's waste disposal system. Does it get worse in the summer?

In all my visits I have never seen anything like this. We have always been amazed at the cleanliness and the garbage (or lack there of). We travel at a busy time, the week of Thanksgiving.
I can only assume this was not the norm on your trip?

Just for the record, this was the only instance of excessive garbage all week, so it was likely an isolated incident. I was still pretty surprised

Certainly didn't happen while we were there, I noticed because we sat for a while off to the side of Liberty Square letting DD take a nap in her stroller and in the hour we were sitting there they emptied the trash probably 6 times.

Eww! That picture made me cringe! I've never seen the trash cans look like that at Disney!!

It never looks like that in the summer - as a matter of fact, I've never seen it look that and that is after working there.

It's Disney but still things can still back up and go wrong. Obviously it's not good show, but it does happen.

Don't worry! :)

Sorry, but I don't see the point in being surprised at a picture with basically no context. I would only think it bad if the garbage was sitting there for a long time. Even if the garbage cans are emptied every ten minutes, this could easily pileup if a large group suddenly puts garbage in, or a few people put in garbage without pushing it down.

I can see in the photo that at least three people were unable to read English (or were just too lazy/stupid) and failed to put their carboard trays in the can marked "Cardboard Trays Only".

I have been to Disneyland 4 times and WDW once before and have NEVER seen anything like that.....:confused3 :sad2:

cleanliness is TOP for Disney so this I am sure is rare.....

This was from the line at BTMR last year.

On our trip a couple of weeks ago, one of the bathrooms at MK was totally disgusting. I had to bypass at least 6 stalls before I found one that was clean enough to use. Ugh.

I've seen a garbage can full and piled up like that... at the fish and chip place next to Rose & Crown at Epcot. it was one day, second week of November 2007. I was really surprised to see the mess! I figure the CM responsible for emptying that trash can had forgotten or didn't show up for their shift.

Its a garbage can, they occassionally get full. It doesnt actually take long to fill one and you cant have someone standing there. Ive seen them fill to overflowing like that in less than a half hour.

And I'll bet any amount of money if the photo was taken for a ways away, you would see several not full trash cans where items could have been thrown away if the person had walked a little bit more. Disney World a TONS of trash cans. If I say an overflowing one and had something to throw away, I'd just keep walking with my trash in my hands until I found one that was emptier. It's common sense and lots of people lose it at Disney World. And most humans are lazy these days. Why walk an extra few feet?

I can't fault Disney World for ONE overflowing trash can when I know there are hundreds of other ones in the park that could have been used.

You are right, there were plenty of trash cans and that was the only one like that. I'm not faulting Disney for the mess, I was just surprised to see it. I took the picture because it was likely something I wouldn't see again.

This discussion might be played out, so I think I'm going to hijack my own thread.

Have you ever seen anything at Disney that completely shocked you or took you by surprise? Something you never expected to see at "Disney World"?

i had that experince at the mk too!!! i do love disney but and do think overall it is very clean, but maybe perhaps it can be hard to keep up with some very messy people at times.

Sad to say I saw almost the same exact situation all the times I rode BTMRR this past trip. While all were right at park closing, I was surprised to see empty bottles laying in nooks. I understand this can happen anywhere, etc., it just surprised me. It was not to this extent, but it was definitely more than just one forgotten drink.

It can happen and in cases like at Big Thunder, while CM's have their rounds, if Guests constantly put trash somewhere and no one reports it then it may be awhile before it's taken care of. There are not enough CM's to sweep every line every half hour or so. My advice, if you are Guest and see something like this, please inform a CM so that they can call it in and get it taken care of.

You bring up a good point. With the cutbacks being made, do you think there will be fewer CMs and thus slower cleanup?

We made 2 trips to Disney last year, and rode BTMRR many times, and never saw anything like that! People can be pigs though. It is disgusting, and I don't fault Disney. You can only have so many people cleaning and if people are lazy, this is what can happen.

I agree with the poster who said we need to report things like that when we see them. The CMs can't see everything that needs attention, and they can't take care of it if they don't know it is there.

In the 50+ trips I've made to WDW in the last 25 years, including a brief time as a CM, I've never seen anything like that. I know those instances are certainly the exception to the rule.
