Just wondering... Has anyone had ever stayed at the Trapp Family Lodge in Vermont, points or otherwise?

I am debating on whether to try and trade out through II or a stay there next year... :D

Thanks!

My parents and sister stayed there for a wedding we all went to in Stowe, VT a few years ago. My DH and I stayed at another lodge in the area. We did meet my parents at the Trapp Family Lodge the morning after the wedding, though. It looked really, really nice, and my parents and sister enjoyed it a lot. It was a June wedding, and the weather was wonderful! The scenery from that lodge was just beautiful, and the grounds were lovely. The drive up the driveway to the lodge was a trip, though. What a long, winding driveway. I remember telling my DH that I wouldn't want to drive down that driveway after a snowstorm:p If I had occasion to go to Stowe again, I'd stay at this lodge in a heartbeat!

I've visited the Trapp Family Lodge many times but have not stayed. (I've eaten at the Austrian Tea Room). It is a beautiful setting. What time of year are you thinking about?

(Did watching the Sound of Music the other night inspire your trip?)

We have been to Trapp Family Lodge several times (we used to live in Burlington VT). When you trade with II you do not stay in the main building but in the chalets located on the hillside. The decor is not anything that will stun you but, it gives you that mountain retreat feeling. The livingroom has a lovely inset woodstove (with unlimited wood available outside). The pool is basic but, the kids love it. They have movies every night at the main lodge. They have seasonal activities for the kids (ex/ maple sugaring, kids day camp, etc...). And if you are lucky enough to go when they have snow, they have x-country skis & snow shoes for rental.

All said it is one of our favorite places to go with our II trades (never traded points for it though).

The lodge and the surrounding condos are on the mountainside overlooking the Stowe valley. Stowe has an incredible selection of shopping and restaurants as well as a variety of sporting activities all year round. Mt. Mansfield ski area is among the best in the east and 5 more ski areas are within an hours drive or less. The lodge operates one of the largest ski touring centers in the country with trails for all abilities. :smooth:

Thanks so much for the input!! :)

We were thinking of going to the lodge sometime in either the Summer or the Fall... My family are not big skiers, so driving in the winter would not be so appealing...

PamOKW, Actually, I was watching a special on the Food Network the other night that featured the lodge and that is what got me thinking... Watching the "Sound of Music" just reinforced it.. :)

The area is beautiful no matter what time of year. Some folks have already filled you in on ideas. In the summer months they also sometimes have concerts in the field at resort which I think would be fabulous. Of course, foliage season on the mountain is beautiful, too.

Also in the area is the Ben & Jerry factory and it's not a far drive into Burlington which has a lot of fun things to offer as well.

It was just O.K. We did not think they were very kid friendly. No kids meals, they charge you full price which is pricey!

The pool is nothing to write about. They said that they had a movie every night but it was the same movie! The room decor is O.K., I would expect more for the price. The service could have been better. My children found it boring. My husband and I enjoyed the scenery very much, but the kids loose interest in scenery after 5 minutes.

I would go again, but not with children. I think they try to be kid friendly, but they really don't want to be.
