Hi Everyone!

I was just wondering if anyone has any recent experience with bringing their gown on the plane (or across the border from Canada). I am still debating whether or not to ship it ahead, or bring it with me. I am told I have to ship my dress from the US, so bringing it on the plane would definitely be easier.

Does anyone have a list of Carolyn Allen's prices, including dress and tux steaming, as well as pick up and return?

Thanks:goodvibes

I emailed CAs last week and they replied and said they would allow me to ship from Canada no problem, but I would have to cover any additional fees that came up for crossing the border.

Their email included pricing, I'll PM that to you as it's a very long email.

I am currently planning to pack my dress and take it with me...the issue is that it's so scary cause planes flying from Canada to the US are not allowing carry-ons right now, so I am actually going to have to check it! So scary....but I'm goingt o pack it in plastic JUST in case something spills on it...I AM going to call the airline ahead and ask if they'll make special accomodation to let me bring it on the plane - but the wedding dress lady (at the store where I got my dress) said she hasn't heard of anyone having luck so far getting them to bend the rules!

LOL, that is a long email! Thanks so much for the info!

I am actually flying from the states, so I don't have to worry about carry on. My airline allows two bags per person though..so I think I may just see if I can fit it in a suit case...that can't be any worse than shipping it?

BTW- Are you from Halifax? That is my favourite city in the entire world!!! I love it even more than WDW! I wanted to take DF there this summer, since he has never been, but I'm not sure if that will happen....unless I get a job there and we can move there (I'm seriously trying!).

I took my dress on the plane as carry on, it was bigger than the dimensions I was allowed but once the check in people found out it was a wedding dress, they were really kind. The only thing was it had to go in an overhead cabin thing, but it wasn't creased at all when I got it out and I didn't have it steamed.

Technically I'm from a small town called Yarmouth - but live in Halifax - it's a wonderful place...I love it - it truly is the most beautiful city I've ever been to! Feel free to PM anytime for advice on the area - whether it be for jobs or just a pleasure trip!

My daughter was married at disney in December and we rolled it up and put in a softsided tote that zipped and carryed it on. It was going to be pressed anyway and I didn't want to take a chance of it not getting there.

That is a good idea, but I definitely do not think my dress will fit in a carry on...I get it back tomorrow, so I can try folding it to see what I think. I want to put it in my suitcase, but I'm worried about my luggage getting lost. I have a direct flight, so it should be okay!

Usually the bridal shop can pack it into a box that's the size of a carry on for you. When my shop heard my wedding was a destination wedding they offered it to me right away. The girl told me that even the biggest princess style dresses can be fit into a carryon size box. Maybe you should speak to your bridal store, I'm sure they've heard it before. I'd be worried about losing my luggage even on a direct flight

I flew from Miami to Houston on a direct flight and my luggage was put on the wrong Miami-Houston flight. We had to wait 4 hours at baggage claim for the flight to come in and hope our luggage was on it. I just wouldn't chance it.

I thought my dress would pack into a hand luggage sized bag.... but there was no way it would so I just carried it on in the bag it came in and I rolled i up, it was huge but no one minded on the way there or back.

Thanks girls for your advice. I am someone who stresses out really easily, so I think the best thing is to take my dress with me, not ship it a head, or put it in a suitcase that isn't with me. The store I got my dress from is in a different city, so I don't have time to take it there for them to pack it up. I am picking up my dress today from the alterations, so I think I will also go out and find the largest carry on I can find, and see if I think my dress will fit in there!

Thanks
